Just released a new windows client.
New Features:
Windows installer
More control via config file
Uses native windows message box instead of net send popup, no longer requires the messenger service.
Able to play a sound and/or open a browser window on popup
This release just updates some of the docs, I missed some info in 0.6. It adds the OSD functionality for linux boxes. This is a really nice way to get alerts, it's not near as annoying as xmessage. I will make this more configurable in the future. I need some feedback on this, we are pretty happy with it the way it is, but I know there are some other features that users could want.
The 0.6 version of the package is available for download. The Changlog in the tarball is wrong, check the Changlog associated with the download.
The new version actually reads from cfg files for all the settings now. There should be another release later tonight. I am testing OSD functionality for 0.7, as soon as I see it does not crash anything then I will release it.
I am working on a new release of the popups software. This new release will add the functionality of 1) Using festival for popups 2) Using OSD(http://search.cpan.org/~gozer/X-Osd-0.7/Osd.pm) for popups 3) Reading server/port information from a config file instead of having to update the scripts each time.
Sometime in the future I will be releasing a Java version of the popups client. The windows net send messages lack some functionality that I want on the client and I am starting to learn Java for work.
0.5 was just release, this is still an Alpha release. The software needs alot of work and most of the changes here are just to make it easier to install the server & client.
Finally got an actual site up and going for this project. http://nagios-popups.monkeypr0n.org
Working on tutorials and various other info.
Working on adding The ability to send alerts via Yahoo messenger.
The latest release of the nagios-popups software seem to work.
