If just tried to upload the newset version of MRTG-eth-probe: 1.5.4
Sadly my Opera browser refuses to edit the newly created release and on this machine i've got no other browser supporting HTTPS available. But as soon as tomorrow morning (central european time) I will upload the corresponding packages again and finish the settings for the new release!
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Mario Witte
For a reasonable time, nothing has happened to the development of MRTG-eth-probe, simply because I din't have an idea, what useful features could be implemented. Some days ago, I had two ideas what too put into the program:
1. I would like to generate an uptime output using MRTG-eth-probe. MRTG displays this output above the stats.
2. The servers I monitor using MRTG-eth-probe are often attaked using DDoS or ICMP attacks, which messes up my stats because due to a short time load of 80-90 MBit/s, you simply can't identify the normal throughput :-(
Due to this I have started developing a mechanism, which optionally ignores those attacks and doesn't display them.... read more
mrtg-eth-probe 1.5.2 is now finally available as a package. The patch-file provided via the patch tracker since last week is now also available via the files section.
There's a small bug in 1.5.1, which leads to coruupted graphs if the devicename is very short. This bug is fixed in 1.5.2, which will be released during the next days. For now you can find a patch-file for this in the Patch Tracker.

Well, I'm late with my news again. Meanwhile I have released version 1.5 which features some additional options for graphing your traffic usage in bits/second and for reversing the output. Printing out bits can be useful if you want to know how much of your T1 is used over the day. Reversing the output will help you if MRTG prints your incoming traffic as outgoing. The built-in reverse options of MRTG won't help you in this case as it only works with SNMP targets.
Some minutes ago I have released 1.5.1, which features a lower number of spelling mistakes ;) and an improved parsing of commandline arguments. This is now done using the standard perl module Getopt::Long.... read more
It's a little too late to call this a news, because 1.4 has been available for some days, but who cares...
Added some more options to be configured, minor code cleanups. The package now includes a sample configuration and better INSTALL instructions.
Whatever, the main feature is that it now allows you to read remote data via ssh. Just ditribute your public ssh-key to all system you are going to monitor. This should be somewhat safer than letting the script write to a port via inetd.
Just uploaded newer version of mrtg-eth.pl with minor bugfixes. Check Changelog for detailed info.
As soon as time allows me to, I will also include a sample MRTG-configfile and (x)inetd-config.
