Project X -AKA- XP Admin (Single Click) Updated 4/8/07 Project X is now inline with XP Admin's new shell extension (My Computer Menu) naming conventions. download http://ucheetmfer.com/files/x.exe md5 http://ucheetmfer.com/files/x.md5 source http://ucheetmfer.com/files/x.7z NOTE If you notice that after using the new XP Admin, shellx or even Project X --- and you have turned OFF all of the shell extensions but you still see some old ones that you want to get rid of... Open the registry editor and go to this key: hkey_local_machine\software\classes\clsid\{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b303 09d}\shell You can remove any of the old stubborn entries by deleting the keys... just do so CAREFULLY. /sgt |

XP Admin 1.0.0 Test #12 Release Date: April 8, 2007 Codename: Chaos Theory I need to get this build tested before I announce it on the site (http://sodpit.com/xpa). Please test these builds as quickly as possible. Changelog XP Admin would not start if some services were removed (by other tools) from the registry. Fixed. Added 25+ shell extensions under a brand new section: Server 2000/2003. Added a few other new shell extensions --- see if you can spot them! Did you know... if you set your XP theme to "Windows Classic", you can see different colored "captions" for the shell extensions. The black items have been around forever, the blue items are the same options but they have been slightly renamed... the red items are all brand new. There is one pink item that I am still trying to figure out. Startup now forces a CHDIR to the actual admin.exe directory, primarily required for the PortableApps menu. XP Admin automatically removes the old named shell extensions so you don't have to do it manually. XP Admin installers are now digitally signed and MD5'd automatically during builds. shellx 1.0.2 will be available later today and will include the new XP Admin shell extension additions. XP Admin 1.0.0 Test #12 Standard Designed for Windows XP and Server 2000/2003 http://ucheetmfer.com/xpa/xpa100x12.exe http://ucheetmfer.com/xpa/xpa100x12.md5 XP Admin 1.0.0 Test #12 Portable Designed for the PortableApps Menu (http://portableapps.com/) http://www.ucheetmfer.com/xpa/xpa100x12.paf.exe http://www.ucheetmfer.com/xpa/xpa100x12.paf.md5 /sgt |

new version needs tested, stand-alone and thru portableapps menu should work for both also, re-installing a second time, in both cases - should be automatically detected as an upgrade, profiles should not be affected installer smaller, mirc.exe not included, will work identical to normal mpp on 1st run svn partially committed, i've sent it 3 times now, guess it's still trying to update the files still work to do for "mpp upgrade" detection, etc happy easter! /sgt |

i am attempting to come up with "safe" upgrade installers for mpp portable... the installer is 100% safe and works if installed "stand alone", but now it doesn't install correctly if you try to install if from inside the portable apps menu system. PA uses 7z.exe -oDIR to extract 7z exe files, the new mpp portable (safe for upgrades) is no longer a 7z, it is an nsis exe. i have tried all three public versions of the portable menu, none work. major: (11:23:26 AM) <+sgt-d> damn. if i build an exe with nsis, i should be able to pass any arguments to it that i want to instead of just /ncrc /s and /d. i should be able to tell my exe to check the command line arguments that were passed to it and to act on any of them that i want it to. (11:25:14 AM) <+sgt-d> for example, portableapps.com - their start menu installer relies heavily on the .exe file to be a .7z file. well, i can't use that because my installer has to be more careful --- during re-installations it can't overwrite some files. nsis is smart enough that it can be coded to avoid an accidental overwrite where 7z would just overwrite all files. (11:27:02 AM) <+sgt-d> BUT... portableapps.com is passing -oDIR to the .7z exe, so in the end it is installed to the correct spot. my nsis exe is unable to receive, view, copy, or even show me what arguments were passed to it, so it never sets $instdir/$outdir and so it never installs correctly under portableapps.com. minor: (5:27:02 AM) <+sgt-d> stupid question time --- file /a --- why does file /a NOT preserve the attributes of FOLDERS? i have +r folders (to show icons using desktop.ini) and the +r is not being preserved when using file /a. /sgt |
