I have tried running the .jar file multiple times, but before it even
starts I get this error: "ERROR: failed to load required file. Make sure
required files are in data folder and not compressed."
I did extract the files to a directory on my desktop, so they are not
compressed. I also have Java 7, 32-bit and 64-bit installed. I have tried
running via both, thinking maybe it was trying to use 64-bit by default and
didn't work. Nothing I've tried works, though.
I don't suppose you might have any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi, with those specs I can only guess that the file failed to download correctly if it's not running for that reason. Try downloading the file again and unzip it all to one directory, then run it from there. If that doesn't work I've uploaded just the data file to mediafire here http://www.mediafire.com/download/irhrqs9lwlm85rf/Data.zip try just downloading that and replacing the data folder inside the file with it (after unzipping).
The original file structure with the .jar file inside the same directory as the data folder needs to be preserved as well. Make sure the data folder is in the same directory as the Monster Generator 1.02.jar file.
Also, if those don't work, what version of Windows or OS X are you running the program on? What tool did you use to extract the files?
Please let me know if these resolve your problem or if you still have more issues.

I tried using the application on my friend's windows 10 PC and I didn't have any problems.
Please try downloading a new copy of the zip file and extracting it, then just double click on the MonsterGenerator 1.03.jar file. I made the readme file a little clearer under 'installation' hopefully, or you can watch that old video walkthru I made on youtube.

I'm having the same issue here, windows 10 64bit.
