I also noticed it can't clearly display quantities over 103 in production, there does not seem to be a consolidation graphic for larger amounts like 50, 100, etc. being used, so the little icon strings get long..

Re: The multiple groups, that's intentional and how the original MoM worked. Production amount are split in two with a gap in the middle. The left side is showing the gold you're making but is being re-consumed by paying for maintenance in that city. The right hand side shows actual profit.
Re: Massive amounts of production. What did the original MoM do for this? There's certainly no consolidation graphics in that for 50 or 100. Maybe they were clever enough to bunch the icons up closer together / on top of each other if it started to ran out of space? If some research / screenshots could be done as to what the original game did here then I'd try to replicate it.

Right sure. I do need to do the same then. I mean it isn't a priority since it doesn't stop the game from working, but will aim to do it at some stage. Thanks for the screenies/links.

In this pic we see the 1x coins do overlap, http://www.ibiblio.org/GameBytes/issue21/greviews/momrev04.gif
and we do see 1x breads overlapping too here, http://www.bestoldgames.net/img/ss/master-of-magic/master-of-magic-ss3.gif
I'm guessing the graphic overlaping icon feature is present for coins, coin piles, hammers, anvils, ect.
