I apologize to everyone who have been asking for updates to be released before the Christmas season. Some unexpected things have got in the way and I wasn't able to release it sooner. However, the pre-release Lumos code is up and running my own light display now, so while there are still several loose ends to be tied up, Lumos is definitely on its way to an initial release, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Too late for Christmas this year, but just on time to start experimenting and refining it for the 2009 season!
I'm behind getting the first alpha version out in time for Christmas this year. Sorry about the delay, I'm pushing to get something with basic functionality in place in time to experiment with for the holidays.
I had to go through my employer's on-your-own-time-open-source-software release process to get an official clearance that they had no interest or claim on this as a product I created while in their employ. That was apparently (according to them) a necessary step for any project like this, so now Lumos is free and clear to continue moving onward. Back to work on the code... I'm looking to get an experimental release out this summer so there's still time to get the kinks sorted out and still use Lumos for Christmas this year.
The current task is to take the older code and reorganize it and clean it up, making it much easier to add device drivers, and providing better support for efficiently drive multiple serial ports (and make it possible to use serial cm17a interfaces (not really recommended, but still useful) as well as parallel controllers).
Thus far, all the device drivers are finished, as well as the core classes and some utility programs. Working now on the sequence playback and editing features. Coming up: refined background processing for the I/O drivers.... read more
I probably should have been updating the SF pages in here along the way, but just so everyone knows, the coding for Lumos is well underway and should be ready for at least an alpha release sometime in early 2008. If time permits we'll put some project collateral here, but otherwise we should have some working code by summer, with ample time to get sequences together for Christmas 2008.
