I'm submitting a few general UI issues I've noticed here. Hopefully they'll be of some use. I'm happy to break any of these that are deemed worthy of separate action (or any action at all) into separate bugs.

In the main Monitor Profiler it'd be very helpful if some indication was given as to whether or not valid measurement files have been created/selected. Currently there's no difference between "before measurement run", "measurement cancelled" and "measurement completed successfully".

The `use externally generated files' option doesn't list the file extensions used by lprof when it generates measurement files with `calibrate & measure'. That's a bit confusing.

Maybe rather than having "output profile name" as a text entry widget it should just be a normal save dialog invoked by clicking "create profile". If the user wants to run the profile checker they should be given an open dialog that pre-selects the last saved profile. The current approach is somewhat confusing, especially since "profile checker" is enabled before a profile has been saved / before any valid measurement data has been set.

In the preferences tab, it'd be nice if detected USB scanners were shown in the scanner list (which would be entitled "Measurement Device Setup," dropping the "Serial"). When a USB device was selected the device type combo (which currently lacks a label - another issue) would be disabled.

"Profile Parameters" need some explanation for general users, and some recommended defaults wherever possible. The dialog will be very confusing for people who are not experts with colour. Also, the `matrix' option in `clur resolution' lacks an explanatory tooltip, and all of them need to make it clear that `size' refers to disk/memory size of created profile.

It's usually best to avoid tooltips on frames, since Qt will tend to display them even when the user mouses over a specific widget, causing the user not to always see more specific tool tips. `what's this' and help can provide good info for dialog regions.

Finally, it might be nice if the `profile identification' was read only and the "Profile Identification" button was prefixed with "Edit".
