How can I find file names such as "Notes de René.doc", "Commentaire de Rene.docx", "Repas proposé par René.rtf", "Entrepreneurs de l'année.html" using a flexible search term like "rene" (without quotes, of course). The thing is, French users like me sometimes type filenames without accents (acute, grave, circumflex, etc.) when (re)naming files. Consequently, most words containing accents are present in BOTH forms (René, Rene; métier, metier; etc.) in my database. Is there a way to tell Locate32 to simplify texts (remove accents: e.g. "é" or "è" become "e") prior to matching filenames and search terms, so that BOTH forms are found? Thanks in advance for you help.

I have a similar problem but with underscore and hyphen.
I don't know if anyone will see this but I've been trying to replace VoidTools Everything (uses so much RAM and is not open source) with this very lightweight cool program.
I have a few questions if someone can help.
Locate32 isn't finding a file with a hyphen ( - ) and underscore ( _ ) symbols in the file name.
Am I doing something wrong? Any way to fix?
Is there a way to not save private data at all (like when going to Tools > Delete Private Data) or have it delete it automatically so I don't have to delete it every time?
Is there a dark theme? I'm guessing there isn't but it's not a big deal, just wanted to ask just in case.
Hopefully at least the first question will have a solution. :)
It's amazing this program uses less than 10mb of RAM but Everything uses more than 200mb!!!
:o

I do not problems with - or _ . Would adding quotes (like "test_test.txt") help? There there are some options in Settings -> Advanced to check the behavious of the searches, but I cannot think any which would change that.
In Settings -> Advanced, there is "Do not save list items ..." options.
Yes, there is no dark theme available.

I'm not sure why some files were not searchable and some were
(I was mistaken about hyphen and underscore being the issue, it's a different pattern) but
it seems to be fixed after going to the Advanced tab and UNticking "Match whole file name" (I don't remember ticking that! Oh well).
As for the delete private data thing , in Settings > Advanced, I scrolled a little over half way down and I ticked
"Do not save list items in "Named", "Type", and "Look In" combo boxes"
I then pressed ok, closed the program and opened it again,
but the "Named" combo box list still fills up as I type more file names even after
deleting private data manually.
Maybe it's my computer's fault in terms of file permissions or something like that?
Thanks.

Oh I see. It does work as you describe.
So is there no way to prevent search terms being written in the "Named" combo box list in the first place?
If so, I guess I can live with that.
Oh I just tried, it clears as soon as I press the x button without even truly closing the program so that setting is better than I thought.
I appreciate your help, jmj!
Thanks again.

There are also those "Number of items in the drop-box list of ..." and "Number of saved folders" which you can set to 0, which should give something you are after?

There is no such feature in Locate32. You can use ?, although it means that any character is possible

Do not save should mean that those won't show up when you restart the program. Did you try that?

Thank you jmj, that's even better!
I never noticed that setting.
