When I start a search then occasionally a prompt dialog window appears telling me that I should update the database at first.

Therefore I have MANUALLY (!) to click on menu

    File--->Update database.

This manual step is unnecessary and not comfortable.

Why not AUTOMATICALLY start the update database process if it is necessary.

By the way: Is it possible to specify a different database directory?

Furthermore a progress indicator value (e.g. percentage of update work done) should be shown in status bar.
Here the update process lasts a couple of minutes and user might want to know if it is enough time to go to the kitchen for a coffee.

Could you add these features in the next release?

    Thank you

Uhm, that promt should not appear in normal circumstances. It should only appear at first run when the database does not exist or if it's deleted.

You can see the dabase location in settings (Databases tab and then double click the database). There you can specify the location of the database as you wish.

There should be progress indicator in the tooltip, but it only works if the database has been previously updated (otherwise Locate32 does not know that how many directories there is still will be to process)

And sorry, the develoment of Locate32 has not been active for several years.

But please note that you should update the database regularly (e.g. using scheduled updates) to get up-to-date results. Locate32 only uses the database for the searches and does not show recent changes if the database is not updated.

    Ok, thank you.

So again: There is really NO auto-update for the database?

Even if the database already exists users have to update it regularly (=before each Locate32 search) manually?

This would be very user unfriendly

Yes, that's how it has been designed.

Note that there is a functionality of scheduled updates that you can define, as long as locate32 is running. See in the settings. Been using it forever in hourly mode, works well.
