    I think it's possible. I think there is no such column (I don't have a change to check it as I do not have windows), and espcially such information is not stored to the database so cannot search based on that.

    Hi there, I have added locate32 to the context menu in Windows 10 via the registry in this way: Add to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell" a new key named "locate32" Add to the new key a new String named "Icon" and set it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\locate32\locate32.exe,0" Add to the key "locate32" a new key named "command" and set the standard value to: " C:\Program Files (x86)\locate32\locate32.exe -P:"%1" ". Hi folks, Thanks for a great program. I'm annoyed that I didn't find it sooner - I have been muddling along with the pathetic Windows search for years. I want to index files in a network folder. I've the drive up to be mapped to a separate database and that seems to work fine. However there are only a couple of directories (and their subdirectories) that I want to map. I've tried using 'include directories pattern', however I can only get this to index a folder and not it's subdirectories. Is that...

    I checked out your link and will see if it solves the mysterious problem. It doesn't matter if it's 32-bit or 64-bit because the application demands so little in terms of system resources. Since the problem cannot be reproduced at will, not having determined the precise circumstances under which the problem arises, only by using the new version for a protracted amount of time will I be able to say, "Hey, yeah—that did it!" Funny about the latest version: I had searched for a newer version right before...

    That's bitty. There is not so much options to debug the program as development is not continued, but maybe the error message gives some hints if something can be done. Yes, no need to reinstall Locate32, but you can try to reset settings. There is settool.exe for that. Have you tried this? If this does not work, there is some kind of problem which prevents to proceed, but I do not know what to do remotely. But do NOT even try to use Advanced here, there is nothing which can help in this case. It just creates confusion.

    Thanks for your answer jmj, and sorry for my response delay. I saw the database reference, but i dont understand everything (due tu my low level in developpement). A thing that i don't understand, when i read the dbs file (with Notepad ++), is that i don't see much "readable" text inside. I see many ASCII and special carachters, as in this line exemple below : t c l s t u b 8 5 . l i b î =I} =I}cDg€‹* t i x 8 . 4 . 3 cDgcDgcDg B a l l o o n . t c l .6 ;9 w;9 wcDg€ I tested with several encoding...

    Hi, Locate32 database has its own fileformat, so conversion is not possible using any standard tools. But perhaps it is possible to write such conversion tool if someone knows how to code. The fileformat is explained here: https://sourceforge.net/p/locate32/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/Locate/LocateDB/DBReference.txt

    A Windows 10 compatible download (binaries): https://github.com/eladkarako/mods/tree/master/Locate32 also, portable. Read instructions on the page.

    Hi, I wish to use Locate32 database into a PostgreSQL database, where i can make SQL request. Do you think it is possible to import or make a link between the "file.dbs" database and a PostGreSQL database ? Thank in advance for your help ! Sylvain M.

    Is there any better similar software? Where else to go, if we have to? I've been using Locate32 pretty much forever.

    No, the whole idea of the program is to use the database to sleedup searches. Otherwise it would be just another GUI for searching.

    Is there any old version or clone or whatever without a database system? Or is there a secret switch do use real time hard disk reading when doing a search?

    It's not always grayed out. You cannot remove local drive from the list, but if you use "Add directory" button to add a directory to the list, then it can be removed using Remove button. But yes, Remove does not have so much meaning: the directory is only included to the database if the checkbox is checked. And directories addded to the list and not checked will not show up in the list next time you open the dialog.

    Hi jmj, I've got no problem in understanding the checkboxes, but, why is it that the "Remove" button at Tools -> Settings -> Databases (tab) -> [select a database] -> Edit is always greyed out?

    At least there is no option in Locate32 for such passwords, sorry. Perhaps there is something in Windows, but I am not aware of such.

    Hello, I have managed to set up Locate32 to search in my company's SharePoint locations. The search location is in the format: "\subdomain.mycompany.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\". That works for accessing the files in Windows File Explorer as well, but only after I enter my username and password. My databases are set up to index at 09:00. I receive a message that the location is not accessible, unless I previously accessed it between Windows login and indexing, and entered my login credentials. My login is...

    locate.exe shuold not update database, updtdb32 is used for that. To update the database, you can use the same command line as you used when you created the database at first place (there is actually no difference between "creating" or "updating", update does not use any information from existing database). Which recommendations you follow?

  • seatrophy seatrophy posted a comment on discussion Locate32 support forum

    i knew about it, and i mean did manual update via cmd like that locate.exe -d C:\locate\test.dbs but no updates no database modification time changed... maybe because i use wrong commnad line or maybe not prepare properly locate32 files for work like portable , but i did exaclty same as recomended to make it work as portable

  • jmj jmj posted a comment on discussion Locate32 support forum

    Yes, that's how the program is designed to work. There is no "live update" implemented and therefore you should update the database to see the changed files. You can setup automatic updated. Locate32 quite has settings for that, but you can also setup a scheduled tasks in Windows.
