Live Cut is a free multi camera editing tool for Final Cut Pro on Mac OS X.
This release is a major update and a big step towards a first stable 1.0 version.
Main new features in version 0.9.9:
- You can name your sequence directly in Live Cut (above the canvas window)
The sequence name doesn't have to be the name of the Live Cut Project file, so you can
export several times from Live Cut to Final Cut Pro, always with a new name...
- Live Cut should work with all imaginable codecs and frame rates (that are supported by Final Cut)
at least 23.98 / 24 / 25 / 29.97 / 30 / 59.94 / 60 fps @ resolutions from Offline RT to HD
Haven't tried them all out, so thanks for letting me know what does and what doesn't work
- Live Cut automatically determines the time base of your material. No need to chose export settings in
Live Cut. All you have to do is to select the right setting in Final Cut Pro when exporting back
- You can export your edit all on one track or as a "swiss cheese", on separate tracks with a lot of holes in it
- Live Cut export to FCP results in just one sequence, named after your Live Cut sequence
-> less clutter, no folders, no clips in the bin - I think they're not necessary.
What's your opinion about that?... read more

Release Notes
Version 0.9.86 features a new, bigger preview window. Select "Preview" (cmd-p) in the project menu to open the preview in a second window that can be moved anywhere you like. Please note that internal video processing is done at a low resolution of 320x240 pixel. The preview window just blows this up - you won't see more resolution... This doesn't affect video quality if exported back to Final Cut Pro.
If you want to view your edit in full resolution or on DV-out, you'll still have to export to FCP.... read more
Live Cut is a free multi camera editing tool for Final Cut Pro on Mac OS X.
Live Cut offers up to four tracks which can be synchronized, viewed and edited in realtime.
It features a timeline for easy navigation and fine tuning of edits. It produces XML output which can be automatically converted for, and imported into Final Cut Pro.
This release adds several new settings for anamorphic 16:9 video (thanks, Pierre-Gilles)
and the possibility to view 16:9 sources in letterbox format. There's a little icon below the canvas near the time code display to toggle between 16:9 and 4:3. Please note that this setting only affects preview - it doesn't change export settings for Final Cut Pro. There's also still a little meaningless bug, where you have to click several times on this button to see an effect. I'll keep working on this..

Live Cut adds features not found in FCP, but it isn't a complete editing solution. The focus lies on quickly selecting the best shots and producing a rhythmically coherent rough cut. Then, import it into FCP to add effects, transitions and titles... Live Cut can save you a LOT of time!... read more
