We've improved our Mumble Server so it's no longer necessary for you to customize your "F2" function key when you want to speak with the opposition (those of you that have already customized "F2" can leave that customization in place because it's harmless under this new arrangement). Details HERE:

    https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxaircombat/discussion/mumbleandlac/thread/182ca483bb/

This is especially useful for those using "Plumble" (the Android version of mumble) because it lacks the ability to customize "F2". Now you have an easy, logical way to speak with your opposition or your allies.

This is also very useful for those that have updated their desktop LINUX system by replacing the venerable "X11" desktop manager with the new "Wayland" desktop manager, because wayland's increased security prevents use of "shortcut" keys like those in common use with mumble. As a consequence of this change, LAC's legacy use of "F2" is impossible to invoke after switching to Wayland and is no longer necessary due to our mumble server enhancements: Just use one of our "TEAMCAST" channels corresonding with your realm, mission, and team for private conversations with you team-mates and use our "MISSIONCAST" channels for mission-wide conversations with everybody participating with you in your realm and mission.

This is also very useful for those running LAC on Valve's "SteamDeck" hardware. Because the SteamDeck doesn't generally have a keyboard, you can't use "F2" to transmit to both teams of your mission. But because our Mumble Server now merges both the RedTeam channel and the BlueTeam channel with the corresponding "MissionCast" channnel of every mission (while keeping the RedTeam isolated from the BlueTeam when the MissionCast channel is NOT used), you can now use the SteamDeck's "Tap Menu" to switch yourself into the MissionCast channel whenever you want to speak to everybody in your mission regardless of team affiliation. Using that "Tap Menu", you can easily hop back and forth between each mission's "TeamCast" and "MissionCast" channels.

Learn about the "Tap Menu" from FAQ #74 in our "LacFaq" page here:
