Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Mars 2.2.5 is now available. This is a primarily a bugfix release. Opening configuration files from the command line (broken in 2.2.4) works again. The XMPP notification plugin now handles client connections properly (thanks Mike Dixson for helping with this). Minor fixes were made to the open/save configuration file dialogs, and to configuration file opening on Mac OS X. Also, Mars' user interface has undergone a minor overhaul; Mars now has a menu bar, and the host/service tree is completely keyboard editable. All existing Mars 2.2.4 users are urged to upgrade to Mars 2.2.5. - Brian |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Mars 2.2.3 is now available from sourceforge.net, thanks to the work and suggestions of community members Scott Ahten, Richard Gill, Noel Bergman, Robert Fuller, Stefan Svensson, and Ivica Loncar (and with apologies to Jon Steele, whose contributed probe extension will ship with 2.2.4). Mars 2.2.3 fixes a bug where Mars would send LF where CRLF is required, and adds features including regular expression search in HTTP responses, HTTPS probing via an included probe extension, and expand/collapse buttons to show and hide all monitored services quickly. See the change log for details. - - Brian Trammell, Mars Maintainer -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (Darwin) iD8DBQFAFJh8bvTRtsmZQBgRAloXAJ9sF3qP+3Qy3dD9wmqcmqKbynCXXQCaArE4 nB1MhoonvtWDMQrmuhKHMwU= =S0hu -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Evgueni,=0D =0D Mars is presently not designed to run as an applet. While it would not =0D= be too difficult to modify Mars to be an applet, it has not yet been =0D done. I'm including a quote from an email to another person who asked =0D= the same question below:=0D =0D > Q: If not, how hard do you think it would be to wrap it up and make it=0D= > work as an applet? (Assuming you have a new jvm on the browser with = the=0D > java plug-in)=0D =0D I shouldn't think it would be _too_ hard to do so - though you'd have =0D= to find a home for the code in org.altara.mars.Main - Mars is not a =0D typical small one-window Swing application in that its main() method =0D doesn't simply call new MySubclassOfJFrame() and let the frame's =0D initializer code handle application init - this was explicitly done to =0D= allow the Mars core to run without the UI (for example, as the backend =0D= to a JSP application). However, you should be able to create an applet =0D= whose init() method instantiates a new Main as in Main.main() and =0D things should run OK (assuming you're trusted). Keep in mind Mars will =0D= want to load plugins from its distribution directory, and will only =0D access the local filesystem for config files - two nice features for =0D the applet (which I've also been thinking about for Mars proper) would =0D= be loading a mars-cfg.xml and a set of plugins from the network, as =0D opposed to from the local disk. If you'd like to take the lead on an =0D applet wrapper, I'd be happy to prioritize those features for a next =0D release of Mars.=0D =0D Regards,=0D =0D Brian=0D =0D On Friday, April 11, 2003, at 06:43 AM, Malkov, Evgueni wrote:=0D =0D > Hi,=0D >=0D > Thank You very much for your job.=0D > Everything works perfect.=0D > I have 3 questions only:=0D > 1.
