As you may have noticed, development on the FOSS project leaguemgr has stopped. However, I am very pleased to announce the creation of the Leaguemgr Network; a network of golf leagues using a centralized leaguemgr software solution that has been honed and perfected based on valuable SourceForge user feedback. If you're interested in using leaguemgr, you should know that it's better than ever in its current state at the Leaguemgr Network. Head over to http://www.leaguemgrnetwork.com and check it out. I have an awesome tool to import data from existing leaguemgr leagues, so create your league today and we can import your data immediately.
The next version of leaguemgr (V2.4.0) will have full support for FTP deployment of leaguemgr to your hosting site. The other benefit of supporting FTP deployment is that the installer/updater is now compatible with Windows! The software itself must still run on a *Nix platform, but now Windows users can deploy the software to their *Nix hosting site. Running a *Nix operating system is no longer a requirement for installation, which I hope will open up usage of the software to a much wider audience.
I am a staunch supporter of MySQL/*Nix and only intended this project for my own personal use when it first began, hence the strong association with MySQL in the code. However, I was wondering if the use of MySQL as the backend database is keeping anyone from using the software? Are there other database architectures anyone would like to see the software written for? It wouldn't be terribly difficult (just time consuming) for me to extract out all the architecture-specific database functions into a library and make the database a user-configurable parameter. ... read more
Not running the latest version of leaguemgr software? You really should be. Unfortunately, as with all other software projects there are bugs and problems with this one as well. I diligently work to make sure that these things get ironed out as quickly as possible and to that effect I would also like to see users running the most current version of software possible.
To help in this effort, I will provide patch files as necessary to anyone who wants to seamlessly upgrade their software. I know how much of a pain it can be to wipe out an old installation and start fresh. Please leave a post in the "Patches" tracker with your current version number (found in <install_dir>/VERSION prior to V1.0.3 and found on http://yourserver/alias_dir/admin/index.php starting at V1.0.3) and I will provide you a patch ASAP.... read more
Much to my surprise it seems that several people have actually downloaded my little project from here. As with most OSS projects, this started out simply as a way for me to satisfy my own needs in a piece of software to manage my league. Nothing would make me happier than to know that others are benefiting from my work.
On that note, this project currently meets all my needs and I have nothing left on my "TODO" checklist. So, what features would YOU, the end-user, like to see implemented in this project? Support for in-depth tournament/outing scheduling (like tee times and individual pairings)? Ability to print custom score cards or score card labels? Improved usability? Please shoot me some suggestions in the "Feature Requests" tracker and I'll let you know if it sounds feasible to implement. If you use(d) similar software in purpose to this, think about what features exist there that might be missing here, or made easier to use.... read more
