Hey folks,

JSMS 4.2.0 is available for download now. If you already have JSMS, then simply enable the "Automatic Update" option in the Preferences and select the "Check for Updates" option from the Help menu.

This release brings lots of cool new features, including the abiltiy to run JSMS in the system tray, cancel a message while it is being sent, enhanced message history and many more changes. Plus any issues people have experienced runnign through HTTP proxies should also be resolved. Check the "Change Log" from the Help menu for a full list of changes.... read more

Hey Folks,

We've just released JSMS 4.1.5. This release fixes a few bugs, but it's primary purpose is to add a check for the version of Java that you use to run JSMS.

From now on, you need to use Java 6 or newer to run JSMS. If you see a warning about the version of Java that you are using, DO NOT IGNORE it, as not fixing the issue will mean that the next release of JSMS WILL NOT RUN on your PC.

So why are we doing this? And why make a release with so few features? It's simple: we have ANOTHER update already beta tested and ready for general release. This new update is jam-packed with improvements and new features. But it will NOT RUN unless you are using the correct version of Java. This is not an idle warning! If you are not using the correct version of Java, the upcoming release will simply crash without any warning why! Thus, we're now giving you an opportunity to prepare your system for the upcoming release.... read more

We have just released JSMS 4.1.4

Keith has put a lot of work into this one and has completely re-written the communication mechanisms used in JSMS, so hopefully it should feel faster and more reliable. However, some operator sites such as O2, are very unreliable these days so if you have a problem sending, check your operator site to see if it is down.

- Fixed bug where sending a text to a manually entered number caused JSMS to lock up.

- Restored sending of messages to groups.

- Added ability to start JSMS specifying the login details on the command line. To invoke, use the following format java -jar JSMS.jar <Meteor|Vodafone|O2> <login> <password>

JSMS is an open source application that lets you send free SMS (text) messages from your computer. It will run on any type of computer. You must have a valid Meteor Ireland, Vodafone Ireland or O2 Ireland account to use JSMS.

- Added a phone book manager and a button to launch it from the main screen. Multiple contacts can added to a group by drag and drop or multi-selection.
- Redesigned Login window.
- Added ability to export and import contacts (great for backing up your phone book).
- Contacts can be searched by typing their name.
- Updated message window and made background colours configurable, just like the fonts are.
- Added message log showing message history since JSMS was launched.
- Updated JSMS to work with Meteor's latest website update.
- Fixed bug where user could only enter a manual number up to 10 digits long (needed for O2 users).
- Updated installer and "About" box images and fixed bug where the installer crashed on certain Linux platforms.

JSMS 4.0.2 is now ready for public consumption! Simply hit the "Help->Check for Updates..." button in JSMS and it should do the rest for you...

Along with a number of bug fixes, we've also added the following new features:

JSMS version 3.3.0 has just been released.

We've fixed support for O2 customers.

We now support Meteor, Vodafone and O2 customers.

We've just released JSMS version 3.2.3.

This emergency release re-enables support for Vodafone customers.

Unfortunately, we are still working on support for O2 customers. If you are an O2 customer, please check regularly for further updates.

Important!
Vodafone and O2 customers.

Unfortunately the backend server that we currently use for sending messages on the Vodafone and O2 networks is offline.

This means that we cannot support Vodafone and O2 customers at present.

Note that we are working to rectify this problem ASAP.

Please check regularly for updates to JSMS.

In this release, we've added the following features:

- The GUI now sports a "Send" button. This allows the user to put carriage returns in their messages and also saves them from accidentally sending a message by prematurely hitting the <enter> key.
- For users who prefer the old mechanism ( i.e. have the <enter> key send the message), it is possible to re-enable that behaviour by setting the "enterKeySendsMessage" property to "true" in the JSMSPreferences.properties file.... read more
