Hello ! I am using jpdfbookmarks since 10 years and have installed it on many computers. This time, I do get an error that I don't understand. I have only downloaded v2.5.2 from sourceforge, unzipped it, and launch either link_this_in_linux_path.sh or jpdfbookmarks and get the following complaint about missing display. Hi, Flaviano! I just tried out jPdfBookmarks for the first time and thought I'd share some of my experience in the hope that it will help the project. I apologize for the length of this feedback. Please see this not as one overly long message, but ten short snippets that can be read individually at your leisure. If you only have time to read one of them, the most important is #1: adding links. Experience: I had heard that this program would let me add links from the table of contents in a scanned...
Hi, thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive and well-structured feedback. At the moment my career commitments for the company I work for do not allow me to work on the project myself, this may not be a problem since the software is open source, but for the moment nobody has really stepped forward to take in hand the development or fork the code. However, I will treasure your suggestions and observations should I find a way to finance the further development of the project with some...

Appears from readme there are no installers available. So in case other newbie like me, this is what I did for 10.15 catalina install steps 1 JpdfBookmarks is a java app, so made sure have the java version required as per readme 2 created a directory on my local where I desired (jpdf) 3 downllaod jpdfbookmarks 2.5.2 from this website (sourceforge) 4 extracted the zip Then to run the java app JPdfbookmarkes STEP 1 opened terminal and navigated to the new directory /jpdf STEP 2 Type "java -jar space"...
Hi, is there a .DMG file to install the app on osx (catalina) environment? thankyou
Update - now it is opening the pane but defaulting to 'thumbnails' instead of what Chrome calls 'document outline' or what we would call 'bookmarks'. (my preference)
Hi, Great application. I am using the GUI interface, and selecting the button to Show Bookmarks Pane when PDF is opened. This works great in standalone desktop Acrobat and other readers. It also works perfect on line in Firefox browser. However, in Chrome 108.0.5359.125 (64-bit) the bookmark pane is not opened by default. Would love to see that supported. Thank you! vlus
Ok, this is something that can help me to understand the problem, smart move. I will investigate the code and let you know what I find out.

I already tried deleting it first, re-downloading and extracting the files again and it still kept that error. I also found this report from another user from 2014 who had the exact same error, apparently, so it is not something new nor unique to me. https://sourceforge.net/p/jpdfbookmarks/discussion/1070005/thread/00df2420/ BTW, my windows is Windows 10 Pro 64 bits, so it isn't a problem regarding the operational system either. The problem really only seems to happen on version 2.5.2 I'll keep using...

Version 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 have the same system requirements, so this is a strange problem, cancel the 2.5.2 folder and try to download again the 2.5.2 version just in case some files were corrupted. Version 2.5.2 has been out for many years, whith hundred thousands of downloads, so this must be a problem on your system. After you download a new installation folder, if you still have the problem, try to use it from the command-line to check if you receive some more details about the problem.
All PDF files. When I first downloaded version 2.5.2, it worked the first time and the first time only. Now, not even the exact same file I had opened before nor any other file opens in it. Version 2.5.1 still works. Whatever the issue is, it is only on version 2.5.2
Hello, is it happening with all pdf files or only with one particular file?
The file never opens. It gets stuck loading file for eternity. The first time I tried the program, it worked, but now it doesn't. Version 2.5.2 I tried reverting to version 2.5.1 and was able to open a file. No idea what caused it or if it is gonna happen again in version 2.5.1 Will update here if it does.
Status: CONFIRMED ✔ @Flaviano Petrocchi, thanks, it works for me! Question Where I can find actual JPdfBookmarks documentation? Before submitting my issue I read flavianopetrocchi.blogspot.com and jpdfbookmarks.altervista.org, and there I didn’t find the syntax as in the comment above. Thanks.
Hello, it seems you are using the wrong syntax, try with: jpdfbookmarks_cli.exe KiraSamplePDF.pdf --apply KiraBookmarks.txt --out KiraPDFWithTOC.pdf You can print some help instructions with: jpdfbookmarks_cli.exe --help Let me know if it works.
1. Summary JPdfBookmarks CLI doesn’t work for me. 2. Data The sample PDF — KiraSamplePDF.pdf. The sample KiraBookmarks.txt file, saved in UTF-8 encoding: Kira/1 Goddess/2 3. Steps to reproduce I downloaded the latest JPdfBookmarks version from Sourceforge → I added path to JPdfBookmarks folder as value of PATH environment variable → I tried to insert bookmarks via CLI as described in documentation. 4. Behavior 4.1. Unwanted jpdfbookmarks_cli: jpdfbookmarks_cli --apply KiraSamplePDF.pdf KiraBookmarks.txt...

pdfbox: update to Apache PDFBox 2.0.22.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9jybf4jqnuiuuzr/mackay_information_theory.pdf?dl=0 htop reports 100% CPU usage, 3% MEM usage.
First, this is a BEAUTIFUL program! It does just exactly what i need. I understand all of the data in the dump file, exept the last item. I extracted bookmarks from a pdf, and every bookmark has either a -6 or a -7 at the very end. Could someone please explain the purpose of that number? Thanks! Rob
pdfbox: Pick up fixes iTextBookmarksConverter.java from trunk
Quick fix to getPageWidth and getPageHeight, if requested page is out of range return the width/height of last page. It was causing a bug in Bookmark.bookmarkFromString() when using the GoToFile bookmark type and the linked pdf have more pages than the host pdf.
Ok, I will have to work on it more.
Yes, Foxit and Adobe (acrobat and reader)
Ok, did you test it also in another pdf reader with the same results (acrobat or others)?
Thanks so much. It works. I could manage it. However, it doesn't produce the exact same outcome like it did in yours (Host2.pdf). Still this problem persist. Bookmark in the host which links to S&G713_2CLS.pdf doesn't take you the exact custom-zoom-level (that is if its takes you there at all) as it would in the original document. Example, the 27th bookmark in the host doesn't take you to the exact custom-zoom-level as the 2nd bookmark in S&G713_2CLS.pdf would. It wasn't the case in yours. Regardless,...
Yes, the bug will be fixed in the next release, but I will help you and attach here an updated and compiled version of the component that I have patched. Copy it in the lib folder of jpdfbookmarks installation folder and overwrite the older file with the same name, test it and let me know if it works.
Thanks @fla1257. It working alright. However, am not only concerned about it working in this instance. How do I replicate the process? Do I need a version of jpdfbookmarks-2.5.2 which has this bug fixed?
Hi, I have probably found the problem, try the Host2.pdf file I have attached to this message, that I have created correcting the bug and let me know if there are still problems. Please test it with a standard reader like acrobat or similar, copy it in the folder where you have the other files.
Hi there... seems this thread has been dead for a while. Am having a problem doing exactly the same thing Basil is trying to do. In my case it doesn't always work for a large number of bookmarks. Say all my pdf files are in the same folder and am trying to open multiple bookmarks from one pdf file, I follow this procedure Dump and append all bookmarks in first pdf (S&712_1.pdf) with ,GoToFile,S&712_1.pdf eg. bookmark1/2,Black,notBold,notItalic,open,TopLeftZoom,958,62,1.017 bookmark2/2,Black,notBold,notItalic,open,TopLeftZoom,951,398,1.017...
Alright, I will be much grateful. Like I have added to my previous comments; the problem starts from the 22nd bookmark in the host pdf file. Also a bookmark in the host which links to S&G713_2CLS.pdf doesn't take you the exact custom-zoom-level (that is if its takes you there at all) as it would in the original document. Example, the 27th bookmark in the host doesn't take you to the exact custom-zoom-level as the 2nd bookmark in S&G713_2CLS.pdf would. Am looking forward to a possible fix of these...
Alright... thought I shouldn't make it available to everyone but you. Anyways, here you are. The problem starts from the 22nd bookmark in the host pdf. Thanks so much.

You should be able to add attachments here, there is a link below the text editor. I am attaching a screenshot to this message.
Thanks for the quick response @fla1257 Alright. Please where should I send the zipped folder?
Hi, this could be a bug, the project is now alive thanks to the work of a new developer (Randolph), probably soon we will have a new version. If you are able to send me a zipped folder with the fils you are using, maybe I can replicate the bug and correct the software before the next release.
