On the Mac, I have multiple spaces (desktops). If I have jEdit open in one space, then in order to use it in another space, I need to move it.

Here is what I would like - when jEdit is open, its icon appears in my dock (the bar at the bottom of the mac screen). I would like to be able to click on that icon and have a new view be opened. It would be great if this happened when I'm in another space or in the same space where the open jEdit already is. Of course the new view appears in my current space.

In addition, if I tell the Mac to open a file in jEdit (like from an email attachment), again I would like a new view to be opened in my current space.

I have already submitted this to the jedit-users email list. There was no response.

    NO!

This does not conform to macOS standards. If you click an icon in the the dock. the expected behaviour is to go to that application's window and NOT to open a new instance.

Maybe if you right click and have a context menu entry "New View", this would fit, but certainly not breaking standard macOS behaviour.
