I'm trying to install JavaHMO 2.4 and running into
problems. Upon initial install it didn't find the JRE so it
went and installed it. Told me to reboot when it was
done so I did. I ran the setup again and upon installing
the JAI piece, it said JRE 1.3 was required and exited
the install. I thought this installation installed JRE 1.4. If
I look in my C:\Program Files\Java folder I have three
different JRE versions (1.42_04, 1.42_06, and 1.5_01).
java -version says 1.5.0_01
I went to Sun's website and downloaded/installed JRE
1.3.1_14. Then I started the JavaHMO install again and
this time did not receive the error message from the JAI
install.
But, when I got to the point in the JAI install the "install
JAI to this directory" was blank. So, I thought that was
weird but I created a new folder on the C drive
(c:\program files\java\jai1.1.2). The progress bar hit
100% but then the JavaHMO install said that the install
was now aborting since the JAI install failed. The JAI
install certainly copied files to the C drive and JAI 1.1.2
shows up in Add/Remove Programs.
I ran the JavaHMO install again and it tried to install JAI
since it must think that it's not there. Each time the
JavaHMO install aborts since it says the JAI install
failed.
Thanks for your help.

I think I did everything you did but then when I installed I
left the JAVA boxes unchecked and it installed. Good luck.

Yes, there is a bug in the installer for JAI (1.1.2) that is
bundled with JavaHMO 2.4 which means it canot be
installed?! There is a fix from Sun (version 1.1.2_01) but alas
JavaHMO will need to be re-bundled with this fixed version for
Win32. :-((((((((

tbalitod's method worked for me. If you already have JRE and
JAI installed, just uncheck them during JavaHMO
installation, and everything seems to progress smoothly.
