For other reasons as yet undetermined, the server hangs
running on a linux machine. While this was going on,
attempted to start the GUI
on the linux machine, and no configuration showed.
Stopping
the daemon with the init script left a 0 length
configure.xml file.
Is configure.xml being written directly? Might it not
be wise to
leave an old version around as a backup?

This happened when there was a rogue jhmo running -- that
is, a second one got started with the first one not gone.
