Pages seems to be loading full copies of the document into RAM every time I do anything with the pages extension options - insert new page, add layer, go to page, and even when exporting to pdf. The document I am trying to work with has expanded to about 1GB of RAM to start with, so every time I do something, it adds a full gig to RAM. That, a) take a long time, and b) gives me about 5 or 6 "pages" activities before I have to save, quit, and restart Inkscape, or else Inkscape will crashes when next I use the pages extension. I think it may have something to do with the undo history. The memory won't clear unless Inkscape itself is closed.

I have attached jpgs of the system memory monitor plot in 2 situations:

"Memory Leak.jpg": Adding a new page, Inkscape crashed, so cleared the memory (the vertical line). I reopened the file (the first 1GB climb after the vertical line) and added a new page (the 2nd set of 1GB bumps) and then a new "pages" layer (the 3rd set of bumps). That already took me to 3.6GB. Each of these activities creates a double bump - what seems to be a load-clear-load cycle.

"Memory Problem 2.jpg": Exporting to pdf - each of those blips is 1 of the 23 pages to export, and each is about 1GB high. That process is taking a very long time.

I am using the "Inkscape Pages" extension in on a Windows 7 Pro machine.

Yes, this is true, but unfortunately this is how extensions work in inkscape. The extensions are external python scripts which receive as input the document on which you are working, and then are sending back the modified result. I was thinking of checking out maybe other possibilities, but I didn't had time at the moment for an Inscakpe pages 3.0.

Okay. I'll make do with it as is - it's still a stack better than the other options I've tried. Thanks.
