HYPE version 5.34.0

This version include a new model to simulate outlet lakes as a three layered lake with temperature stratification. The stratification is determined by heat exchange with surface, sediments, and between layers. The model comes with a bunch of new output variables for location, volume, density, and concentrations of the lake layers. There is output variables that give the simulated water temperature at specific depth below the water surface (1m, 2m, 5m, 10m and 15m). These are at depth according to the hypsograph, not volume depth as HYPE always calculated on before the introduction of layered lakes.... read more

HYPE version 5.32.0 updated

It has come to my attention that one of the executables for HYPE version 5.32.0 (HYPE.exe) was not the correct one. A new folder with correct files HYPE.exe and HYPE_nobutton_DA.exe (which is the same as before) has been uploaded into the release_5_32 folder. The only difference is the version number output on the sceen and in the log-file.

New description of HYPE input data

Hello,

Together with HYPE version 5.31.0, a ne description of time dependence of HYPE input data was released. It describe how the new time dependent land use/vegetation/crop feature works, among other things. It can be found among the Tutorials on the wiki: http://hype.smhi.net/wiki/doku.php?id=start:hype_tutorials:timedependent_input

Kind regards

HYPE version 5.31.0

Hello,
This HYPE version introduces timedependent land use changes through exchanging the ClassData.txt file. Land use related columns can be exchanged in the file at specified dates. A tutorial on this function will be released.
Local diffuse sources (also known as rural households) are moved from GeoData.txt to a separate new file called NonPointSourceData.txt. This file can also be exchanged at specified dates.
We have added a new function to load precalculated runoff and skip calculation of the soil. This can speed up simulations where the runoff is unchanged, e.g. investigating dam regulations.
This version has changed land area calculation. It has been changed from total area minus surface water area classes to sum of land area classes. This will affect your simulation if you didn't have your sum of slc parts to be one.

HYPE version 5.29.0

This version is not so different from the last one.
A new model option for snow pack reset, and speed up of the reading of leak- and load files is the primary changes.

HYPE version 5.28.0

The new year begin with a release of changes made late last year.

An isotop model was added for O18 and H2 based on isoWATFLOOD (https://github.com/h2obabyts/isoWATFLOOD) by courtesy of the developers. HYPE now includes a modeloption for using the new processes Craig-Gordon fractionation of evapotranspiration and evaporation-transpiration split of evapotranspiration. In addition more output variabels related to substance T1 was added.... read more

HYPE version 5.26.0

This version introduces observations of class groups for output, criteria calculation and data assimilation. There is a new model for simulating recharge and discharge areas withing a subbasin, where different classes are defined as recharge or discharge classes. Additional modeloptions to snowfall distribution model and growth start models.
Note that there is changed name of parameters in CropData (daylength, gddsow, basetemp, firstday) to (gsdaylen, gsgddsow, gsbasetemp, gsfirstday).

HYPE version 5.25.1

Bug fixes for netcdf forcing data files and adsorption of T1 process.

Posted by Charlotta Pers 2023-12-13

HYPE version 5.25.0

This version has extended netcdf file functionality:
- Netcdf format for forcing files changed; small letters are now used for the data variable name.
- Netcdf format for other observation data introduced, also regional observations. Previous versions had only forcing data.
- Netcdf output possible without netcdf forcing and other observations as netcdf files.
- Netcdf output for data assimilation results. The functionality has been extended to work also for data assimilation simulations.
- User defined global attributes that is added to netcdf result files may be set manually in info.txt.... read more

HYPE version 5.24.0

HYPE version 5.24.0 has new features:
* The possibility to specify a separate folder for other observation files than meteorological forcing.
* The possibility to specify a minimum flow from lakes and dams.
* The possibility to have state files written for the first of every month or year.
* The possibility to have maximum and minimum values as extra output in the subass file.

Additional changes are:
* The AssimInfo.txt file has moved from the modedir to the same folderas the info.txt.

This version has a slight change of the HDS model to work with other surface water models.

HYPE version 5.23.0

HYPE version 5.23.0 has new features:
* The Hysteretic Depressions Storage (HDS) model is included (Ahmed et al. 2023). This is an alternative model for internal lakes, a model to simulate non-contributing areas for Canadian prairie potholes, developed together by University of Calgary and SMHI. The HDS model simulates the change in contributing catchment area, depressional storage and outflow from a subbasin.
* Wind dependent snowfall distribution between subbasins.
* Fresh snow density wind dependence

HYPE version 5.22.0

Hello,
This version introduces forcing data as netcdf files. Other observation files are still only possible as text files though. A new output format is introduced similar to HYPE time files in netcdf format. A new setting for how date-time should be formatted in the (text) output files is available.
The options for flushing of sediments collected in reservoirs have been changed and expanded. Now multi-basin lakes can be flushed either all basins together or the last one alone. The flushing may start depending on siltation in the whole lake or the last basin. For all flushing options see Figure 3 on the sediment wiki.

HYPE version 5.19.3

Hello,
another version with bug fixes has been released. The reading of starting state has been corrected in the case of using travel-time soil model, ilake connectivity model or siltation model. There was also some issues with reading the time correctly for startingstates with shorter time steps than day (if not starting on hour 00:00), that has been corrected.
In addition, this version has a possibility for simulation that only a fraction of a class area has tile drainage, and delay of OC in runoff.

HYPE version 5.20.0

HYPE version 5.20.0 has som new features.
* For simulation of wetlands a function for simulating that a fraction of a class area has tile drainage and another function for delay of OC in runoff has been added.
* A new model for T2 in rivers including all incoming waters calculated temperature. Modeloption to use old model where T2 of river is reset. Pointsources lacking T2 in input are still using reset of river temperature though.
* Unformatted state files is introduced.
For more changes see the release notes.

HYPE version 5.19.1

Hi,
Today I have released a version with bug fixes regarding T1, T2 and 'outstatedate period' for HYPE version 5.19.0. A new output variable has also been included.

HYPE version 5.19.0

For HYPE version 5.19.0 HYPE has been extended with a new rootzone soilmodel. This model will accept root zone leakage concentrations to the upper two soil layers and start calculate substances from there. This model has simpler substance process formulations for soil layer three than the original HYPE soil model. Both the rootzone soil model and the travel-time soil model can be combined with the original model for different classes and for different substances.
Other changes are primary for the nutrient simulations. Diffuse source to the lowest soil can now be added as a load. How to set initial values for substances in the soil has been changed, e.g. more pools of organic substances decrease with depth.
The data assimilation code of HYPE has been added to the release. A short introduction to data assimilation can be found on the wiki.

HYPE version 5.18.0

Hello,
The latest HYPE version has improved calculations of river flow. An modeloption has been added for "riverflowmodel" for those that want to use the old formulation. A new option for indata checks is introduced. You can now check the forcing data separately, which is useful for repeated runs with the same model but different forcing. Read of more bug fixes in the ReleaseNotes.

HYPE version 5.17.0

Hello,
The latest HYPE version has atmospheric deposition input of all substances collected in a new file, AtmdepData.txt. A tutorial for transforming older input in par.txt and GeoData.txt exists on the wikin. Other news are the possibility to have comment rows in the beginning of forcing data files, and that the number of observations used for calculating criteria in the subbasin assessment is given in subass-files. Read of more changes in the ReleaseNotes.
