HaverNet - Haver Chat Client for Windows / News: Recent posts

This project is officially no longer a sourceforge project. It is simply much more convenient to run it off of my own webspace. It may now be found at http://havernet.diagonalfish.net, where I will soon add a news section for more updates like this one. Downloads are there as well. This project's data has been updated accordingly.
So, you ask, what's happened lately? Well, I'll tell you. The Haver project is finally active again after having undergone a 4-month hiatus early this year, and I am starting up HaverNet development again. The current version is now 0.3.0-pre6, and is publicly available for download and testing. Of course, the existing servers are also being actively worked on and are unstable, so there's really nothing to test it on... Oh well. Anyway, just wander over to the new site and try it out. Have fun!

Well, I promised I'd have something by New Year's, and I do. Nearly all the features I wanted to add for this release have been added, plus some, and everything seems to be stable. However, no official server release has been made which supports the new protocol, and so I have decided to hold back the release. In the meantime, I am going to give out 0.3.0-pre1 to a select group of beta testers to knock out the bugs. Release should hopefully come within a month or two.

Time for another development status update. The primary Haver server developers have been unable to get much accomplished due to other commitments (as have I), but things are finally starting to grind along again. I have added several more features to the development version, including:
-New shiney-looking about box
-Channel label
-Updated SSL library
-Support for several more server commands
-Menu reorganization
I'm also working on a new more sophisticated options system which will allow nearly complete customization of chat messages, and adding other more minor features back in from earlier versions.... read more

Development of the next HaverNet is progressing less than smoothly, mostly because of a lack of time and initiative on my part. But, as of now the connection handlers have been successfully rewritten, the connection dialog box works, SSL support is functional, and you can currently join a channel and see who's in it. Everything else will come with time. Hang in there :)

I've begun work on the next version of HaverNet. This version will be a complete from-scratch rewrite, with a new GUI and completely redone code. The Haver protocol has also evolved significantly in the last month or so and this will be reflected in the 0.3.x series. I hope to have this new version done soon, but it all depends on how much time I have and how many more changes the protocol undergoes in the near future.

HaverNet v.0.2.5, hopefully the last in the 0.2x series, is now out in the wild for your chatting amusement. In this release are several significant improvements over previous 0.2x versions, including a brand-new INI-file based config save system and several more minor GUI and protocol handler tweaks. This version is still targeted at official server version 0.06. The 0.3x series, the first of which may appear later this week, will be aimed toward the development 0.07 server. As always, check the website for specific lists of changes and improvements.

HaverNet v.0.2.4, hopefully one of the last versions in the 0.2x series (there will most likely be one more, containing a new less-buggy config save system and fixes for any more bugs that arise), is out. The 0.2x series is still intended for use with the official Haver 0.06-version server. This version fixes two bugs, one minor and one that could cause a program lockout thanks again to the current config save system. Also included are some code efficiency modifications, a "rawlog" feature, and illegal UID character filtering. Today the second 0.2x series version of HaverNet is released. It is a highly recommended upgrade, as the protocol changes it includes are now compatible with the latest release of the Haver server. This release solves the installation issue with the previous version. It also includes a variety of new features, including use of the new 'single' channel mode, 2 new misc. commands (/clear and /say), a few message changes, and the ability to ping and request the local time from other users and the server. Again, this is a strongly recommended upgrade, as previous releases are almost certian to be incompatible with the latest servers (which should be released today or tomorrow.)... read more

HaverNet 0.2.1 was released Sunday, but it has a critical incompatibility bug with previous versions which makes it unusable. Besides that the Haver protocol is evolving again and 0.2.1 is already out of date. Downloading it is not reccomended.

The fifth beta version of HaverNet, v.0.2.0, has been released into the wild. This latest release has several important improvments, including option saving, timestamps, password support, private messaging, and /commands. It also includes several bugfixes and minor additions that had been missed previously. Have fun!

HaverNet beta version 0.1.3 is out! This is an important release, as all previous versions are now obsolete protocol-wise. This version also has several new improvements including efficient error-handling and a variety of important bugfixes. See included changelog for the full list. As usual, enjoy!

v.0.1.1 is out with several improvements. Refer to the now-included changelog for details. The next release will be either v.0.1.2 or v.0.2.0 depending on how much I add before release.

The initial version of HaverNet is out. It supports the all functions of the current server, except for PMSG and PACT. Enjoy!

I'm waiting for more info on the HaverNet protocol, then work will begin on the client.
