Opening a saved, empty deck

Nokia 770 with Granule version 1.2.1 (I think):
I have been creating a new deck then saving it, without
any cards.
Since I've been unable to add any new cards, when
Granule crashes I reboot and restart the program and
attempt to pick up from where I left off.
When I choose Deck -> Open and select a previously
saved (empty) deck, I get the following error message:
Failed to load deck file (path)
Check your file syntax with
"xmlint --valid <fname>"</fname>
If I'm allowed to have an empty deck in my list of
decks, and to save an empty deck, shouldn't I be
allowed to open it? Or shouldn't the error message say
something different?

The application crashed. My bet is that the deck file was
not left in the consistent state. The root of this problem
is the bug in CardView dialog on maemo.
