#29 Problem with Umlauts

Hi,
the 2.2.8 release has a problem with german umlauts in
the user interface instead of ü they are displayed as
"u - which might be caused by wrong character settings.
This seems to be a problem by the build, because
neither the 2.2.6 nor the 2.3.3 I'm running from fink
has this problem.
