Note: None of these options work if secure boot is enabled since know of no way to get it signed
with a MicroSoft bless (Meaning paying a ton on money to Microsoft) certificate.
Does seem there are methods to create a certificate, but that would require manually going into the
UEFI setup and manually adding the certificate. Usually, just turning off secure boot before using
and then turning it back on. Memtest86+ has same issue with there version.... read more

Uploaded Version 0.64 working on 0.65

Version 0.64 is built with Fedora 37 system as base, and has 6.4.14 kernel as default but also has 6.5.1.
The Default file has an ISO image using Syslinux that can be copied to a USB or burned to a CD.
It also has an Image file that can be written to USB that has grub4dos/grub4dos-EFI so that it will boot from either a legacy setup or a EFI setup.
Does Not Have Secure boot setup, so secure boot will need to be turned off to boot it.
Version 0.65 is being built using Fedora 38, and has done 5 alphas so far, but mostly changes to Fedora 38 from 37, and same kernels.

Uploaded version 0.63

Has kernel 6.3.5 as default and has syslinux version that supports legacy boot and grubdos setup that supports legacy and uefi boot (Doesn't work with secure boot on, since no way to get Microsoft blessed signature).
Has new grub4dos, memtest86+ 6.20 and all latest support files from Fedora 36.
Will be updating build machine after waiting a week. Not sure if just to Fedora 37 or 38??

Uploaded version 0.62 and working on 0.63

0.62 was build using Fedora 35, and now 0.63 is using Fedora 36.
Have done 10 builds so far, and 10 includes update of the memtest from 5.31 to 6.01.
Big thing is that now have memtest working with syslinux version, and now both the grub4dos legacy boot and the grub4dos efi boot. Before memtest would not run under UEFI, but 6.01 now supports it. Uses different memtest files for legacy and UEFI. Fedora is still set with 5.31, so auto setup doesn't work with memtest, but can be manually modified to run it..... read more

Uploaded 0.61 release

Uploaded 0.61 Release witch has the lastest kernels and files from my Fedora 34 build machine. Fedora 34 just went EOL, so released the alpha 78 version. Has both the syslinux and grub4dos versions of files to run. Syslinux version is standard boot, while grub4dos version should support both regular boot and UEFI boot.
Have already upgraded build machine to Fedora 35, and updated the support files using Fedora 35. Required updates to a lot of programs and library files. Have make 3 builds so far with Fedora 35, and done limited testing on them.
Hope all is going well.

Uploaded a g4lefi.iso and readme file in new G4LEFI-Testing

The g4lefi.iso can be copied to a flash using dd or an iso burner. It will wipe all data on flash, so make sure it is clean of any data.
The image is a 64M iso that contains both regular usb boot using grub4dos and UEFI boot with grub2, so is a dual boot flash.
It shares the exact same kernels (just two) and ramdisk.lzma regardless of boot option. Readme will explain more.
Have tested it on my Dell 9020 system, and works fine. Also, has added a fix if warm boot after windows leaves nic in a state
that doesn't allow dhcpc to get ip. Now does a nic hard reset, to get around that.
Has a basic background screen. Again readme has more info.
Thanks.
Have a nice Day and be safe.

Have recently create a UEFI USB version of G4L

Had a user that had new systems that no longer support normal booting, and would only allow UEFI boot.
With information from many web sites, and help from the Fedora List, I've been able to create a USB that will boot from the UEFI boot menu.
Final process is very simple, but required a lot of things that didn't work.
Steps to complete process.
Take a USB Flash and set it up as GPT.
Create a Fat32 partition.
Currently, I have a file called g4lefixx.tar that contains a kernel file that was the same as the regular ISO kernel, but required the addition of a number of framebuffer modules and activation of fbcon (Somewhat of the equivalent of VGA on non-UEFI boot.
File also contains the exact same ramdisk.lzma file used by the iso.
Finally, the EFI files are from the Fedora 34 live boot install CD.
It has a custom basic grub.cfg file that loads the kernels and filesystem. Only real difference is the Framebuffer setup puts the screen in a much higher res setup compared with the regular boot. Not a big issue, but seems EFI passes video into, and not a way that I've found.
Otherwise the program seem exactly the same.
The new setup works fine with regular boot, and with either CD boot, grub4dos boot from flash or hard disk, or booting from grub (non-efi) the kernel option vga=ask will prompt and allow one to select various screen resolutions.
Have file on my home ftp server, so limited access. This is listed in Support Discussions.
Was just checking site, and saw the mailing list. Seems I somehow was no longer subscribed to it, so subscribed. Not much activity, but thought I would go ahead and list there, and now here on the News link.
Hope everyone is doing well. Modifications to kernel build added about 100 lines, and increased size by about 400K.
kernel is a total size of about 10M, ramdisk.lzma is about 30M, and other EFI file are about 1M.
Am currently at v0.60 alpha 66, and if I get good feedback, I'll probable release this shortly, and also make the EFI archive available as well.
Thanks.

G4L 0.57 uploaded

This release had 114 builds in the process, but most of it was new kernels and updating support programs over time.
The release was being built using Fedora 30 as the base system. Since that is the last 32 bit system, and it just went EOL, decided to go ahead with the release.
Have started building a new 64 bit version using Fedora 31. Fedora 32 just came out, so will wait a while.
Was a lot of things to change in moving from 32bit to 64bit setup. All programs and libraries needed to be redone, and a few new setup things were required.
Have done 2 builds that boot in Virtual Box, but have a few little things to resolve.
Thanks

g4l release 0.29

In trying to reduced the size of the kernels, I went thru the make menuconfig and removed various options that it listed as being best to say N if unsure. I tested the changes on the systems I have available and it appeared to save about 1/2MB of each kernel, but have had a few users that noted that usb keyboards don't work. Changing back to the earlier build base solves the problem, so the update is mainly just the kernel updates plus the other changes.

Latest changes with 0.29
Release syslinux 3.73
Kernels 2.6.27.10 and above rebuilt
reduced size by about 1/2MB but usb keyboards stopped working.

and develope a g4l-lite that includes only default kernel and
ramdisk.gz and tools to add g4l via grub4dos, grub, or syslinxu.

g4l version 0.23 released

The g4l 0.23 has been uploaded as both iso and tar.gz. It has newer kernels, syslinux, and other support programs. Biggest issue is the addition of ntfs-3g to allow writing of local images to ntfs partitions, and creating ntfsclone backups to local partitions.

V0.21 released

I've release version 0.21 with a few additions.
Added NTFSCLONE option as an user had requested. I have used it once with lzop compression, and was able to backup and restore to a ntfs partition with no problem.

Changed the default kernel to 2.6.15.6, since I discovered that the 2.6.16.x kernels have some issues. A couple of users had hardware that did not work with the 2.6.16.x kernels, and I recently did an image on my AMD64 system, and none of the 2.6.16.x kernels would see the SATA drive.
