FreeCol 0.11.6 and subsequent development versions up to 2019-12-26 are subject to an XML External Entity parsing bug, due to use of a vulnerable Java library, as detailed in CVE-2018-1000825.
Older, unsupported versions since at least 0.10.0 may also be affected.
According to the CVE the bug can lead to disclosure of confidential data, denial of service, SSRF, or port scanning, albeit with limited attacker control.... read more

FreeCol Nightly Releases are ready!
Download an installer here:
https://github.com/FreeCol/freecol/releases
Please let us know if it works or does not work. This is experimental and I'm running on Mac, so have only tested the Mac installer thus far.
If you find bugs or annoyances, please report them to our bug tracker:

Nitty Gritty Technobabble stuff:
Nightly releases are initiated automatically whenever a merge is performed to the "slim" branch on Github. I'll change this later to a "prerelease" branch once we confirm everything works.
The slim branch excludes srcdata and the website, so clones work much faster on this branch. I'll probably change the initiation of a nightly release cron to run once a day only if there are new commits, so that merges can be performed multiple times a day without triggering a release every time.... read more

more Col1 compatible.
We have released FreeCol 0.10.4, which fixes several issues reported
with previous versions, and should be able to load all games saved
with versions 0.9.x and 0.10.x. Enjoy!
We have just released FreeCol 0.10.1. It is a stable release that fixes many of the bugs reported after the first release of the 0.10.x series. memory leaks that caused the game to slow down have been found and
fixed, as have a number of annoying bugs.
Several serious bugs, including a memory or reference leak that caused 0.9.3 to slow to a crawl, have been fixed. A graphical modification (mod) by misiulo adds new graphics for goods and resources. Translations for several languages have been considerably improved.
We have just released FreeCol 0.9.3. This release fixes several bugs,
including a combat bug that made it possible to capture colonies that
still had armed defenders. The handling of keyboard accelerators was
improved in several ways. Keyboard accelerators are now available for
virtually all mapboard actions, including movement, a feature that was
requested by several users who use keyboards without a key pad. And
keyboard accelerators are now (optionally) localized.... read more
FreeCol 0.9.2 has been released. This is a bug/feature-fix release,
the main changes being:
- The increased native land claims in 0.9.1 have been reverted to the
more moderate 0.9.0 behaviour, following comment that this made the
game too difficult. This feature will be back in a later release,
but only after implementing the feature that at least exempts your
*first* colony from having to buy its land (as was the case with the
original Colonization).... read more
This is purely a bug-fixing release that does not add any new features. The most notable bug squashed is one that prevented the REF from landing in the New World after you declare independence.
After several months of development, we are proud to announce the release of FreeCol 0.9.0. And we wish you all all the best for the year 2010.
During the development of FreeCol 0.9.0., we focused on three areas in particular: incrementally improving the AI, improving stability and updating the GUI. In addition to numerous bugfixes, FreeCol 0.9.0 introduces the following improvements:
