Hey all, I spent the last few hours going through all the open requests from TranslateWiki where TW users requested support on translating FreeCol to answer as many questions as I could. I have added some additional project documentation to a few of the strings, which should be seen the next time Nike imports. (Nike: if you see this, can you please close some of the outstanding requests as it appears this is something only someone with the correct permissions can do.) Additionally, I have cleaned up a few usages of British English found in the main file and move them over to the en-gb by editing them on TW. Those should also show up in the next TW import by Nike. Certainly code review would be a rarity for us. We also have a lot of synthesis of message names, which defeats grep. Clearly things were better for FreeCol in the past, but the naming convention has drifted and fallen into disuse with time, to the point that inconsistency is causing confusion. On the development side, I want to clean up the master FreeColMessages.properties file. It is getting increasingly annoying to work with, and every time I look at it I find old messages that are just making extra translation work. A clean up would make these more obvious and easier to prevent. Generally I try to avoid touching FreeColMessages.properties, once again to avoid causing needless translation work. So what are the implications to the translators of: 1. Just moving lines around --- no actual change to the <name>=<message>s. 2. Changing a <name> part to something more descriptive. I am hoping that the answer to #1 is: nothing. For #2, I am concerned that a renaming would cause the message to be presented as a new string for translation. If not, good, but if so, is there a way we can avoid this and preserve the existing translations? Cheers, Mike Pope |

Hallo to all, first of all I would like to say I am very big fan of FreeCol game. You are so great guys! Well done! I love old Colonization but you really rock! Ok, now back to my issue :) I am actually translating FreeCol game to slovak (sk) language and I will be done soon. Then I will review all but... our grammar of the language sucks and it is very difficult to translate things like that on translatewiki to be all correct. Anyway, I am doing my best so it will be not perfect, but it ill be ok. However I would like to know, once I finished the translation on wiki, how I can get the language to my game so I can review it again and correct to make the translation even better. For example, the strings starting with "report" are used on the various report panels, the strings starting with "colopedia" are used by the colopedia, and the startings starting with "model.option" are used by the option dialog. If you start the game in debug mode, you can display some of the panels that are not so readily available in the course of a normal game. Regards Michael |
