Hi Eryk, for automated tree segmentation you need to go step by step - create terrain and vegetation a nd from vegetation you can automatically segment trees. For import problem we know that used format has some limitation in size and for normal job we use tiles with size about 2 -3 GB and it works. Jan

Hello ! Program is cruching and shutting down when i am trying to import .las file point cloud. Program does not show any information about error just shutting down or don't answer. File size is around 8.5 GB and there is above 150 000 000 points. I have extracted single tree from point cloud and when i am trying to import this file there is no errors. Hi, currently is not possible to easily set up measurement height for DBH. There might be workaround for you. Try to translate your trees on the z axis higher by one meter and than compute tree position with original terrain.

HI, problem with LAS file can be with its version - if you have las file version 1.4 try to downgrade it and import. Or problem can be also with project creation if you have some spaces in your path to project folder. And one more note. From your figure it seams that you are processing only one scan from plot. It has problem with variable point density near and far from scaner. so if you have only single scan setup try to cut far away points or merge more scans together for more uniform pointcloud. Jan

And for your problem with importing data seems to me that problem can be with project definition. Maybe you set directory with spaces in name. HI, laptop can be fine, Just depends on RAM (at least 8 GB). 16 GB RAM is more recommended.For computation is better to have more cores in CPU but usually 4 is good. Hi Jeff, input parameters depends maily on point density and on units. firts aasuption is that cloud are saved in meters. ideal input distance is such distance (voxel size) that collect at least 3 point in one voxel for computing any description. So if you have spacing about 1 cm among points input distance can be about 2 cm. but be carefull since point density can vary close to scanner and in the top of tree. So default value about 4 cm should be ok. Multiplication value gives information about...

Try to decrease number of elements when you set distance from the terrain smaller. I would use distance to 0.5 or 1 m that can help with tree segmentation. Got 190 "of"^^ 650(ish) trees (TYPO ABOVE)
This time it got the whole tree though. I think what I did wrong was I had "distance from the terrain" set at 1.600 I think it should be more like 0.100
I tried with Version 0.5 and it quit half way though. I got 190 or 650(ish) trees. I'll try again tomorrow.

Hi, problem with terrain Is understory vegetation that can be solved increasing to 12 or 15 cm instead of 10. Better terrain segmentation can help also with vegetation segmentation. You Need values named As global shift in your screenshot. When creating project, try to insert those values As new transformation matrix. i can suggest aslo another method for deleting - merge all clouds into one and delete only one file after merging.
Hi Hannah, Closing project and deleting the point clouds manually from project file is the fastest way how to do it for now. Simple way for deleting multiple pointclouds is on our todo list, as well as new User guide for version 0.50 and lot of other functions (database for storing tree parameters, ability to run 3DForest functions from command line with different settings...). Unfortunately we are currently overloaded by work, so it'll take a while. Any help is welcomed :-) Here is a brief description...

Hi, that kind of strange problem. It may be caused by wrong type of cloud. please can you open in text editor your project file? (the file with name of your project and .3df extension). On the first line it shouild contain some information about project and other lines are just list of clouds in project, but it starts with type of the cloud (teren, vege, strom,ost,..) in menu "Tree" -> "Tree edit" you can edit only clouds with type "tree" or "strom" in "Vegetation" menu "maual vegetation segmentation"...
HELLO the program is very interesting, I am using data from mobile land scans that keeps all the returns in a single echo, I have some problems, I can not edit the cloud in tree and also in segmentation, however in some segmented trees I can calculate heights, more it does not let me calculate the DBH, the cloud of points is in meters I do not know what the problem is, pay attention to comments

Hi, Unfortunately this is normal, 3D Forest project doesn't store any of the computed parameters. Only way how to save this parameters is to export them. But it is already on the task list for future version. Martin
Hi there. Great software! I am just wondering if there is a way to prevent myself loosing all my rendered files after I close the program and then re-open a project? I know that I can export the attribute table, but I loose the crown projections (volume by voxels etc.) and all the attribute table data in the GUI whenever I close. If I re-open the program from a saved project file my attribute table is empty and I have to re-run all my rendering again from scratch. Am I doing something worng or is...
Basically it can be updated on two sides - CPU and RAM. Ram consumtion is big since whole cloud is loaded into merory so you can upgrade memory. And number of cores in CPU can also speed up computation since we use multiple cores programing. But I also use i7 CPU and it could be enough. I usually use las file about 1 Gb but also 3Gb can be ok for start process and maybe in few hours it will be done without need of merge tree from diferent tiles. Also not sure what version are you using. I just uploaded...
One more thing... I am currently computing all the tree positions. But 1 in 10 trees give me the error message that "to few points were found for estimation of positioning using hough transform using lowest points method". This means that I have to click "Okay" before it continues to compute, so I have to baby-sit the software while it computes, which will take me all day. Thanks a Million Janek! It worked :D I think the .las file was 3Gb overall. The only problem I have now is that it is very cluncky to manually spearate incorrect tree segmentations. It is very slow and akward to do any manual adjustments. But its still very useful and impressive software. I'm a rookie with this computationally heavy geoinformatics. My hardware list is below. Can you suggest anywhere I can upgrade to increase performance? I'm guessing it's on the GPU, if so, which GPU would you reccomend?...
Lastools are free for use https://rapidlasso.com/lastools/ and you need to run txt2las i think. After creation of las file let me know how big is the file. That can be the problem with spinning wheel cursor - the file is too big for display all data. Sometimes I use also tiles using lastile just to create smaller tiles and process them separatelly. Hi That could ve caused by many things. The first option is, that you did not create project or you have space in folder name. I am not sure where the problem is since almost everything should work, maybe resolution of your cloud can be wrong - in 3D forest we use all points in meters as the base unit and your cloud could be in mm. Hi, just wild guess, check if your path to the project folder contains spaces. this can be also problem. If this will not help maybe try to make las file (using lastools) and import las file. Hi, The data is separated by space and is clearly in xyz format with 3 columns but I don't think I Imported into a project so that might be my issue. I'll check that later. Thanks for the reply. Heather.
HI Heather, can you a little bit more describe your data (just few lines of your data)? this can happen when i.e. coordinates are not separated by space. or you can make las file using lastools and import the the las file instead. and just one note. I am not sure if you already create a project folder. First you need to create project with projection matrix and place where all created files will be. and after this you can import files.
