IC7300 CW keying via USB port

The Icom 7300 can be keyed in CW mode using either the RTS or DTR control line associated with the virtual serial port used for CAT functions. The setup is not intuitive and requires a number of configuration settings using the IC7300 menu system, flrig's configuration and keyer setup, and fldigi's configuration and proper selection of operating mode.

Icom 7300 setup

Menu and Functions adjustments:

........600 (or a pitch suitable for your hearing)

Select CW as 7300 operating m ode.

Flrig setup

Press Config

........PTT on CAT Serial Port
........CAT: BOTH

Press Keyer
....CW (CW keying dialog opens)
........Press Config (CW configure keying dialog opens)
............Use CAT: enabled

Fldigi setup

Select OpMode: CW

Select Mode: CW

Select Configure
....Modem
........CW
............DTR-RTS Keying
................Useflrig DTR/RTS keying: enabled
....Misc
........Sweet Spot
............CW: 600 (or the frequency set in the IC7300)
............Always start...: enabled

CW characters may now be sent either from flrig via it's CW dialog, or from fldigi via it's transmit panel and the T/R button. Illustration of CW RTS keyline setup on Mac Mini i7 processor / MacOS Monterey 12.3.1:

WPM can be adjusted at either fldigi or flrig (does not alter transceiver WPM setting).
