Firebird Project is happy to announce general availability of Firebird 2.5.3 — the latest minor release in the Firebird 2.5 series.

This sub-release introduces several bug fixes and a few improvements, please refer to the Release Notes for the full list of changes. Binary kits for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms are immediately available for download.

The Firebird development team is pleased to announce the release of Firebird v.2.0.6 for Windows 32-bit, Linux x86 and x64 and MacOSX/Darwin i86 and PPC.

The members of the Firebird Project team are proud to announce the release of Firebird 2.1, a full release containing many sought-after new features including database monitoring, global temporary tables, database triggers and dozens of new internal functions.

This release includes kits for 64-bit Windows and all MacOSX environments and constitutes our largest-ever platform coverage. Enjoy!

For almost a year now, we have been using our own customised Bug and Feature Tracker at http://tracker.firebirdsql.org. When you find genuine bugs, you are warmly encouraged to report them. However, please do not use our Tracker as a tech support forum. Use an appropriate support or development list FIRST to verify that there is a bug. On March 21 the Firebird Project made the first sub-release since the 2.0 release in November, 2006. It adds no new features (those are coming in v.2.1) but provides a large number of bug-fixes and a few improvements. It is highly recommended that v.2.0 installations be upgraded to get the benefits of these. The Firebird Project officially released the much-anticipated version 2.0 of its open source Firebird relational database software during the opening session of the fourth international Firebird Conference in Prague, Czech Republic.

Firebird 2.0 is the happy culmination of more than two years' efforts from a broad-ranging, truly international community of dedicated developers and supporters. It brings with it a large collection of long-awaited enhancements that significantly improve performance, security and support for international languages and realise some desirable new SQL language features. Under the surface, it also provides a much more robust code platform from which the re-architecting planned for Firebird 3.0 is proceeding.

For those who missed the presentation of Firebird Project Coordinator Dmitry Yemanov's conference white paper about what's happening now and through the next year or so with Firebird development, you can pick it up now.
