The gallery2 path and the URL to your gallery should be separate things. The physical path used to include the gallery files and the actual URL to the gallery might be different.

For example:
The physical path is gallery2/ but the URLS should be http://photos.domain.net/

The gallery2 plugin does not support this sort of configuration.
