This Fix Pack has been created solely to update the GIMP application to its current version 3.0.2, allowing all users of the Escuelas Linux distribution to access all the impressive new features of this free and open source raster graphics editor.
If you or your organization has no immediate need to update to GIMP 3.0.2, you can skip this Fix Pack, as a recent GIMP will still be available in the next version of Escuelas Linux. Also note that installing GIMP 3.0.2 will remove the previous version 2.10.38, and that you will have to reconfigure any drawing tablets or customizations you had before.
In addition to GIMP 3, this Fix Pack also includes G'MIC-Qt 3.5.3, the no less cool open framework with a wide range of image filters and effects. Escuelas Linux has always included G'MIC-Qt along with GIMP, and this time is no exception, although we had to do our own compilation of the G'MIC-Qt source code to make it available in our distribution.
Last but not least, in this Fix Pack we have added the possibility to choose between using GIMP with its own interface or the PhotoGIMP mod, which allows you to use GIMP with an interface similar to that of Photoshop, for those of you who are more familiar with that program.
To install this Fix Pack, you should:
1) Download the file from the link
https://sourceforge.net/projects/escuelaslinux/files/escuelaslinux-8.11-english-64/EscuelasLinux-8.11-64bit-FixPack-1.tar.gz/download
2) Open the File Manager, go to the Downloads folder.
3) Decompress the downloaded file by pressing your right/alternate mouse or trackpad button, and choose "Extract here."
4) Double-click in "FixPack-1" file, which will be inside the EscuelasLinux-8.11-64bit-FixPack-1 folder created when decompressing.
In memoriam, Sébastien Fourey (1972-2024), developer of G'MIC-Qt.
