FIXED BUGS

  • The 8.10 32-bit English edition introduced an incorrect configuration of Wine, preventing Windows-based applications from running. Fixed in 8.11.

  • In the 8.10 32-bit English Edition, the Gallery clipart categories were listed in Spanish. Now in English as of our 8.11 release.

AVAILABILITY AND DOWNLOAD

The new version of Escuelas Linux is available for free download starting today. Schools, educators, and students can access the software by downloading it from:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/escuelaslinux/files/

Once there, download the .z01 and .zip files for the architecture you'd like to use (64-bit or 32-bit). Both files are required to build the ISO image!

Note, however, that we received a message from SourceForge claiming that we were using a large amount of disk space, and if we did not select which files to remove, they would remove the files themselves.

In this situation, we made the painful decision to remove the dedicated English-language ISOs that were previously available.

From now on, you will have to install either Escuelas Linux 32-bit or 64-bit using the Spanish language ISOs. Don't forget to select the English language in the menu when opening the installer!

After the installation, download the package escuelasLinux-8.11-english-[32bit]or[64bit].tar.gz, unpack it and in the resulting folder escuelasLinux-8.11-english-[32bit]or[64bit], double-click on the file InstallEscuelasLinux. This will open an application to remove all Spanish language packages and folders, so that your distribution is completely in English.

We sincerely apologize for this additional hurdle.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR ISO IMAGE

  • On Windows and Escuelas Linux systems, use the file manager to unzip ONLY the .zip file to create the ISO image.

  • On MacOS, install The Unarchiver application and unzip ONLY the .z01 file to create the ISO image.

  • On Linux distributions that cannot handle uncompressing split zip files in their file manager, open a terminal and type the following commands

cd Downloads [enter]
zip -s- escuelaslinux*zip -O todo.zip [enter].
unzip todo.zip [enter]

Do you have old computers with between 512 and 700 MB of RAM? Does our standard 32-bit ISO not install on your old computer? Then download Escuelas Linux LowMem, also updated to version 8.11! (See our Installation Guide.)
