CUPS, the modular printing system, had a security issue. Patched.
Under certain circumstances, a file required to upgrade Mozilla Firefox web browser was missing when using the apt-get upgrade command or when using Synaptic.
In Escuelas Linux 8.9 the wine-mono package was not really installed, even though it shows as a package included as part of the Wine compatibility layer. Fixed in 8.10, and is not an issue if you have been upgrading since earlier versions of Escuelas Linux.
In our 32-bit edition Geogebra did not start. Problem solved.
Starting with version 8.9 we decided to disable the grammar checker in LibreOffice by default as it can cause unexpected crashes on some computers. To use it again, click on Tools → LanguageTool → Options, and in the “General” tab untick on “Disable background-processing check of text”.
Now Escuelas Linux has built-in support to type in Mandarin and Japanese. Consult our Installation Guide to know how to activate both features!
The award-winning Escuelas Linux distribution can be downloaded from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/escuelaslinux/files/
Once there, download the .z01 and .zip files for the architecture you'd like to use (64-bit or 32-bit). Both files are required to build the ISO image!
Note, however, that we received a message from SourceForge claiming that we were using a large amount of disk space, and if we did not select which files to remove, they would remove the files themselves.
In this situation, we made the painful decision to remove the dedicated English-language ISOs that were previously available.
From now on, you will have to install either Escuelas Linux 32-bit or 64-bit using the Spanish language ISOs. Don't forget to select the English language in the menu when opening the installer!
After the installation, download the package escuelasLinux-8.10-english-[32bit]or[64bit].tar.gz, unpack it and in the resulting folder escuelasLinux-8.10-english-[32bit]or[64bit], double-click on the file InstallEscuelasLinux. This will open an application to remove all Spanish language packages and folders, so that your distribution is completely in English.
We sincerely apologize for this additional hurdle.
On Windows and Escuelas Linux systems, use the file manager to unzip ONLY the .zip file to create the ISO image.
On MacOS, install The Unarchiver application and unzip ONLY the .z01 file to create the ISO image.
On Linux distributions that cannot handle uncompressing split zip files in their file manager, open a terminal and type the following commands
cd Downloads [enter]
zip -s- escuelaslinux*zip -O todo.zip [enter].
unzip todo.zip [enter]
Do you have old computers with between 512 and 700 MB of RAM? Does our standard 32-bit ISO not install on your old computer? Then download Escuelas Linux LowMem, also updated to version 8.10! (See our Installation Guide.)
You can update Escuelas Linux 8.9 to our latest version, 8.10, for both the 64-bit and 32-bit architectures with the packages:
EscuelasLinux-8.9-to-8.10-64bit.tar.gz
EscuelasLinux-8.9-to-8.10-32bit.tar.gz
Download the package suitable for your architecture.
