After a long time waiting... OpenUSS Team is proud to release the first Integrated Release of Freestyle Learning (FSL) and Open University Support System (OpenUSS)! Great job to all of us! Enjoy! Best regards, Lofi Dewanto. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Integrated Release of OpenUSS and FSL! LMS: OpenUSS - Open University Support System LCS: FSL - Freestyle Learning ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ******* OpenUSS ******* OpenUSS is a J2EE- and GPL-based Learning Management System (LMS). If you need to have an online eLearning platform to manage your lectures, build communities, OpenUSS will be the best investment for your institution! Like -> Apache for web server, -> JOnAS and JBoss for EJB server, -> Tomcat and Enhydra for servlet server, OpenUSS is targeted to take over the market for Learning Management Systems (LMS). At least we believe that, LMS are also general-purpose, commoditized, horizontal infrastructure software. -> OpenUSS for LMS! *** FSL *** FSL is a J2SE and GPL-based Learning Content System (LCS). If you need to build and execute multimedia contents, FSL will be the best choice! Like -> OpenOffice for office contents creation and execution. FSL has the purpose to let you create and execute your multimedia contents, -> Macromedia Flash for animations, -> FSL for LCS! OpenUSS and FSL are infrastructure software for every organizations, institutions, which have a need to build an eLearning platform and communities: - universities, - schools, - communities, - training companies and - companies in general, which offer direct training to their workers. For an introduction please read the followíng article: "Learning Java Programming Language with Open Source Products and Technologies." http://edu.netbeans.org/support/oss.html Have a lot of fun! BTW. We are really happy if you want to join us! You can just build your own components and we can integrate them into OpenUSS and FSL. Have a lot of fun! Lofi Dewanto. OpenUSS Homepage http://openuss.sourceforge.net FSL Homepage http://www.freestyle-learning.de OpenUSS and FSL at SourceForge http://sourceforge.net/projects/openuss Reference Implementation http://www.openuss.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OpenUSS Team and Workgroups for version 1.4 and FSL version 3.2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prof. Dr. Heinz Lothar Grob (http://www.wi.uni-muenster.de/aw) Dr. Frank Bensberg Dr. Jan vom Brocke FSL architect, main development: Mirko Wahn (aw...@wi...) OpenUSS marketing and user support: Alexander Ludi (op...@ya...) EJOSA Template, architect, main development: Lofi Dewanto (de...@un...) Again, I would like to thank to all the people above, who have done a great job to help OpenUSS and FSL reach this maturity level by now! Also many thanks to all others, who already support us! OpenUSS Members: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openuss Cologne, 4th. June 2004, Thank you! Lofi Dewanto. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OpenUSS Version 1.4 and FSL 3.2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** For users *** - New design! OpenUSS looks pretty nice now. We use CSS and all the skins are now based on CSS as well. It is very easy to make your own skin! - OpenUSS and FSL use the same concept: "Multi-Perspectives Concept". In OpenUSS you will find an enrollment of lecture with many perspectives (lecture materials, discussion, mailinglist, etc.). In FSL you will also find a learning unit with many perspectives (intro, text study, etc.). All these perspectives are easy to extend thanks to the component architecture of OpenUSS and FSL. If you work with Eclipse, you will see that this concept is just similar to Eclipse perspectives concept, which for example shows many perspectives (code, resource, cvs, etc.) for each project. - OpenFormula integration. The discussion forum supports formula editor based on Java applet, to let you write your formulas easily. - Profile for students and assistants are included. - New perspective: FSL Installation/Download. Within this perspective you can install FSL automatically from the network. - From within FSL you can now directly register as an OpenUSS user. - A lot of new functionalities! *** For developers *** - OpenUSS 1.4 is still based on EJOSA Template 1.3.5. The use of EJOSA Template Revolutions 2.0 should be done in the next version of OpenUSS 2.0 Revolutions. More information about EJOSA EJOSA = Enterprise Java Open Source Architecture EJOSA = Enhydra and JOnAS Application http://ejosa.sourceforge.net New Release of EJOSA 2.0 Revolutions: http://www.theserverside.com/news/thread.tss?thread_id=25957 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OpenUSS 2.0 To Do ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next steps and coming features: - Update to EJOSA Revolutions 2.0 with MDA (Model Driven Architecture). - Integration of OpenFjord (http://openfjord.sourceforge.net). - Integration of OpenCPMS (Controlling of LMS OpenUSS). - Integration of OpenGroup (Groups building component). - Integration of Seminars Allocation System - Savus (http://savus.sourceforge.net). - Integration of lportal EJB components as perspectives in OpenUSS (http://sourceforge.net/projects/lportal). If you want to help us, please do not hesitate contacting us at our developer mailinglist at SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openuss ------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALL: - Download openuss1.4-prog.zip at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/openuss/openuss1.4-prog.zip?download - Unzip the openuss1.4.zip (application and sourcecodes) file to your choosen directory. Example: /program/openuss DO NOT use empty spaces within your directory! - Download openuss1.4-ext-libs.zip at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/openuss/openuss1.4-ext-libs.zip?download - Unzip the openuss1.4-ext-libs.zip (external libraries needed) file to the "ext-libs" directory within openuss. Example: /program/openuss/ext-libs - Make sure that you have the following structure now: /program/openuss/ /program/openuss/dev-all /program/openuss/dev-... /program/openuss/ext-libs /program/openuss/ext-libs/enhydra.jar /program/openuss/ext-libs/... /program/openuss/ext-libs/enhydra/... - No other libraries needed. All included! Please read openuss/ext-libs/readme-external-libs.txt to see Please read readme.txt, install-quick.txt or install.txt for further information! Lofi Dewanto. |

However, the feature you suggest definitely sounds interesting. I actually have a copy of a stripped out eledge testing engine that is highly modified. It is literally meant to be used as an "Assessement module" (ie, we use this engine and the associated exam as an aid to placing new students in appropriate level courses). This particular engine only displays a single question at a time... certainly it could be adapted to what you discuss. Additionally, we are considering using the "navigo" (http://sourceforge.net/project/navigo) testing engine (when they finally release ;) in future versions of eledge. It is/will be IMS and OKI (and therefore SCORMS) compliant, and should be quit full featured... we'll see what happens. =) Robert |

Hello Robert, Thanks, I submit the request on RFE. I have still an other improvement to suggest :-) It would be good if we could have a timeout for each question of an exam (not for the complete exam). So when a user pass an exam, he can't write or copy and paste all the questions to give them to other students! We could have a counter in red below the question showing the student tim= e elapsed for this question; if it expires the page is refreshed with the n= ew question ... Do you think it is possible ? Even if there is a random choice of the exam's questions, it would be goo= d. Regards, Fred -----Message d'origine----- De : ele...@li... Currently, we are in the middle of refactoring the eledge architecture, s= o, implementing this feature would probably wait until after that is finished, but... I'll keep it in mind. =3D) If you'll go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/eledge and go to the RFE page and fill out a feature request, I'd be obliged. Hi Robert, Thanks for your reply. An example could be the fact that a user can not pass exam if he/she hadn= 't participated to the course (or made homeworks, ...), or if he/she hadn't pass a prerequisite exam ... Perhaps we could think it as an optionnal parameter for an exam. When you check options for it, you should have a list of existing users you can browse and add some of them to an other authorised users list for this ex= am. Hello Eledge Team, I am a new user of Eledge Software, and find it really useful. I would like to suggest Eledge Developpers the possibility to restrict exam to a particular user. Today we can give deadlines for succesive exams, but we can't restrict access to an exam for a specific user ... What do you think about it ? Regards Fred --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi, I'm Robert, and currently, I'm the Project Manager of Eledge (Dr. Wight turned it over to me over this past summer). We're looking at making some major architectural changes to eledge, and I wanted to get as much input from our users as possible before we set about to do anything. =) To that end... I've started a thread in the "Open Discussion" forum detailing some thoughts about current and future eledge architecture. I'm writing this message to let those of you subscribed to the list, who might not be monitoring the forums, about this thread, and to encourage you to participate/raise your voice, and let us know your thoughts on the direction we should take eledge. Thank you, Robert Zeigler Eledge Project Manager |
