OK folks. I've run through a quick refresh of the code and updated it to work with TinyButStrong v2.02.3. I've started a new module in the CVS repository where I've added the code... or so I thought (trouble ticket submitted to the SourceForge folks on this one). I'm about ready to release an alpha version of the code for you all to check out. I need to take care of some date formatting issues from the database, and I think she'll be about ready.... read more
OK... I'm a slacker. I put my work and my family before this project for a while. Shameful. I recently grew tired of the fact that I had nothing to show for my work on this project and I'm jumping back into the mix. Thanks for suffering through the down-time. I'm back in the saddle.
Yes, that's right, folks! I'm somewhat back from the party... so I've got some time to devote to development of my various projects.. and this is one of the big ones on my plate!
Thanks for standing by while I ran around the world to serve a higher good.
Sorry for the slow-down, folks. I'm not able to reach my computer very often these days.
As soon as I have a chance to breathe and get back to normal routines (may be weeks.. may be months.. I'm not sure at this time), I'll fire up the creative parts of my brain and let loose with a torrent of development.
Meanwhile, please feel free to make suggestions, join the testbed website, add your own reviews, etc. The more feedback generated, the better this place can become. And if you're interested in helping out with the project.. please drop me a line.... read more
Sorry folks.. I know you're all cryin' in your beer. I'll be away from my computer all next week, so I won't be able to make much progress on the project. Check back in a couple of days...
Feel free to check out the workin' project in development via our "Home Page" link. Leave us some comments, report a bug, or offer to help... any and all of these options are always appreciated and welcomed.... read more
Spent some time today improving the User Interface. I, for one, don't like the idea of having to browse through the entire tree of countries, cities, and locations to find what I want.. especially if I'm just curious about a place that someone recently wrote a review about...so I made a few changes here and there to make exploring the system a lot easier.
Let me know what you think! All suggestions, comments, etc. are always welcome.
That's right... you, the average-joe-user can now create an account and submit your own Locations and Reviews to the Ecalevol Reviews site.
You'll notice some changes to the front page (the main menu now shows some of the options that will be coming online in coming days).
More as it happens!
For all of you wondering where all the stuff that used to be listed under "Website News" on our front page, it's moved here... check back for more updates on stuff we've worked on and changed, etc.
- 24DEC02 1530 CET - Totally trashed the old version of the Restaurant Code that I had been using in favor of using a newly created version of my own.
- 12JAN03 1400 CET - OK.. restarted the progress again, but this time with a small code set called TBP (TinyButPowerful). So far, the work has gone much faster than in the past.. lets hope it continues this way!
- 12JAN03 1430 CET - Alright! I've got most of the basics of the index page squared away... the login box over there will even validate the fact that you put the correct information in the fields before sending it on to the login script. So.. it's on to the login script and then the meat of the system. More as it happens!
- 12JAN03 1830 CET - Rockin' here.. I've just added the add review page to the system.. need to update the link on the main page. Not TOO much error checking going on at the moment, but heck, I'm just happy to have somethin' that works!
- 12JAN03 1858 CET - Sweetness... If you check the list of Recently Added Reviews above, you'll find that you can select each of them and that it will display the review for your reading pleasure.. although there's not much to be seen at the moment. We're cookin' with GAS
- 13JAN03 0036 CET - Alrighty! I've got the login working now so that it will check the DB and see if you're really a user.. and if so, it'll remember you throughout the rest of the fun, and display your name down in the lower left corner of the screen.. how sweet! *BLECH!*
- 13JAN03 1501 CET - Whew... besides jumpstarting my car, driving to base, clearing the snow off all the sidewalk in front of my house, and even managing to eat a bite lunch, I've done quite a lot of work on the Reviews Website:
- Edited the View Review pageset so that one can send the author email
- Fixed the Add Review pageset so that it's much easier to add a review...
- Created the Browse Countries / Cities / Locations pages with links to add each of those items
- Created the menubar at the top of the page that will display on all website pages
- Modified the main index page so that only the latest 5 reviews are displayed (all the reviews in the database used to show)
- Created the display all reviews pageset... still needs some work so that one can change how the list is sorted, but that'll come in time
Greetings, folks! This week we've taken a huge step towards accomplishing our end goal: creating an easy to use, easily portable, simple to maintain reviews-based website system
The development started last week with the help of the creator of the TinyButStrong PHP script. A very rough version of the code is in the works at our home page (clickable above).
Our main focus here is our own website... that's why we're writing the code, but I was frustrated that I couldn't find anything like this availabe under the GPL when I was searching for "off the shelf" solutions that would work for me. So I decided to make the code widely available for use by you fine folks.... read more
