Released the newly redesigned Pre-Alpha. Some functionality is missing from this version but other new functionality has been added. The default action for convert will convert the title which is playing in the preview window. This new version requires .NET 3.5 and Windows Media Player to be installed with a DVD decoder. Please feel free to comment on this version. The installer for this version is now the default download for Windows platforms.
Sorry to everyone not taking advantage of the forums but thanks to a persistent violator of the forum rules I am making the forums require logins. You can use your sourceforge login.
Check out the newest test release for ipod touch functionality. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=165186&package_id=194508&release_id=566789
Added an option to convert already existing files from your hard disk to the applicatioon's newest version of the gui. This new option is located under help.
Just set the program for an iPod conversion. The outputted file is compatiable with the latest version of the PSP firmware and is playable without any modifications to the system.
Fixed a few bugs. There were two bug fix releases you only need to grab the latest bug fix which resolves the issues resolved in the previous version. The bug fix includes all other files so that is the only file you need to download.
I rebuilt the installer to work with the newest version of Vista. Please note that this breaks all compability with the Beta releases of Vista but this ensures that it will work on the final release as long as they do not make many changes to the Home editions from the Business Edition.
THe newest version also appears to address an issue with the previous edition and using it with limited accounts. After this is installed you should now be able to use it with a power user account on windows xp. Please report any issues that you face with the latest version. The current edition is revision 2 of version 0.6.
I went and re-read the news and it appears like I may have worded it poorly. It only decreases the encoding time by a few ns and does not reduce it to a few ns. Sorry for anyone who may have been confused.
The graphical issue has been resolved. Download the second version if you experienced this issue with the first revision. The code of the main functionality of the GUI has been changed for a minor speed boost (less than a few ns for an encode). Please report issues with the program as most of the code has been rewritten.
I noticed that there is a slight glitch with the graphics on some xp computers with Revision 1. I will address this issue in the next release. To temporally work around this error either use the older version of .6 or change your system's color scheme.
The file GUI_Installer_v6_Revision_1.zip is the revised version. This file is not highlt tested as of yet. In incourporates minor fixes to be compatiable with the latest version of Windows Vista. It also includes the language selection as suggested on the forums.
Finally the project's wiki works properly. See http://dvd-to-ipod.sourceforge.net/wiki/ for the wiki.
I finally got a version to finally build. See the preview section to download the pleminary binary of the terminal version along with its source code. As allways the biggest problem was getting ffmpeg and mplayer to build correctly for the intel processor.
As the title tells you all, I am curious as to how all of you find this project at a regular basis. I am also interested in any imput that you may provide. Please feel free to post in the forums. If you have a problem with my lack of design ability, I will just tell you help the cause. It's open source for that reason, I cannot possibly do everything. The open Forums are the place to comment on anything that is not specifacially related to the program. Additionally, I have looked into porting the program to work on mac os x. It this point all I am missing in the conversion of the terminal version is some of the optimizations for the iPod conversion with ffmpeg (or in fact the code to just convert it in once step using mplayer). If anyone can assist with this endevor, I and everyone who uses the mac os x os would be greatful. Untill someone has some major need/idea for a revision to this program it will probally not progress untill I port it to mac os x.
Version 0.6 has been released and it incorporates all features of the previews along with the option to "hide" Advanced options hopefully making it easier for not Advanced end users to use.
If there are no major bugs then pre 3 will be the final pre release version untill 0.6. There will probably be few new features in the final version but I will fix any other bugs that I find with the new features. Please feel free to report all bugs.
A new Preview released for your usage. This version uses the old parts which worked better than the new edition and it has a dvd player using Windows Media Player for x86 users so that they can figure out the title/chapter they want. Check back later for the final release of this version.
There is a glitch with the preview. If your DVD doesn't have an engllish track then it will not complete any operation. To resolve this dump the files from MPlayer-mingw32-dev-CVS-050928 into your instaliation directory. http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/win32/old/
I have decided to add a section for unstable releases. This section will have all of the bleading edge functionaliyt but it comes with the price fo being unstable. Feel free to try the unstalbe version and let us know how it works for you.
Just tested it on windows Vista and it works with only one hitch. To retrieve your files you need to browse to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\DVD to iPod GUI\DVD to iPod .
Replacing [your username] with your username in Windows Vista. For example, if your username was Andy you would acces it with: C:\Users\Andy\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\DVD to iPod GUI\DVD to iPod
Please note that this is the path for the default instaliation of the GUI. Replace it with the path that you used.
Why keep a good thing to myself? I am releasing the newest version which has some x64 support. Not everything has been converted to 64 bit but a bit of it has (sorry for the pun) and it works well. So you have one of the newer processors go ahead and try it out. Just done expect any major speed increase as the encoders are still 32 bit.
As soon as it uploads a slightly newer version of the program will be aviable in the cvs. This version deletes more of the temporary files when you convert to ipod. The terminal version is now the cpp file in the root of the test modual and the project in the folder terminal will build you the latest version. The GUI has also been updated with this feature. The final version including this change will be released at a later time. untill then you can browse the cvs and build it yourself or you can ask me to release the files earlier than I would like and I will.
I have tested this program on a 64-bit architecture and it runs well under WOW 32 bit emulation. Tested on the new Intel Pentium D(Dual 64-bit core).
The cvs modual test has been updated with the current sources for the gui version being added. Anyone interested in te source should see the cvs. The gui seems to be as fuctional as the terminal version and should be used by anyone who does not understand the terminal version of the program.
