I just installed DJV-2.0.8 on Windows 7 and it won't run. Do I need an earlier version of it?
So it seems to still be bad with .mov files. It does however play back .mp4 files quite nicely. With one caviat. While it does loop .mov files, it does NOT loop .mp4 files for some reason. One problem gone... new problem added. :P
Never mind! Not sure what I did.... maybe just re-booted my pc... no clue... but it looks great now.

I just downloaded DJV viewer yesterday and loaded a .mov file with H.264 codec (not sure if that matters), and the image quality was pretty bad. It looked unaliased. When I loaded that same file in VLC it looks totally fine. Any thoughts or suggestions on what's going on? Is there some settings that I'm missing? Unfortunately, because this is work related I can't share any images... let me see if I can dig anything else up. Thank you, M

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I was looking for a way to change the shortcuts on DJV and this seems possible but I can't find the option anywhere. Could you please let me know how can I access this setting? Or maybe it was removed from the new version? Thanks!
Note that the new mrViewer is called mrv2. Binaries can be found at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mrv2/files/ and BSD-3 source code at: https://github.com/ggarra13/mrv2
Hey Darby, really nice news! I didn't know that and it makes total sense to halt DJV since very similar tools are now out. But seeing that you keep delevoping and that you created tlRender makes me happy! I will try it via mrViewer :)
Hi Pipeliner TD! Thanks for checking in. :) Unfortunately I have not had time recently to work on DJV, and now that OpenRV and xStudio have been released I am not sure how much more effort I should put into it. However like a phoenix from ashes I have a new project called tlRender that continues a lot of the DJV functionality but with a different focus: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/tlRender tlRender is a library for creating playback applications that borrows a lot of DJV code but with a new...

It's been a long time since the last version is released. The number of issues on Github are rising and Autodesk release an opensource version of RV. Is there still support and hope for DJV?
Hi.. So far the command line options all seem to want to open a new instance of djv. Is there a way to send a command to the currently open instance? I want to use this to remotely jog frame position for example. Thanks Gerald
Hi, did you download the .zip package? If so could you try the .exe package instead: https://sourceforge.net/projects/djv/files/djv-beta/2.0.8/DJV-2.0.8-win64.exe/download
Greetings all.. after installing DJV.. I'm getting the following error.. ERROR: C:\Users\XXXX\Downloads\DJV-2.0.8-win64\DJV-2.0.8-win64\etc\Icons\djv-tshirt-v02.png: Cannot open file. Also.. EXR sequences are extremely dark... its almost like its looking in the wrong place for the configuration files..
Hi.. I'm getting this error after installing.. ERROR: C:\Users\XXXX\Downloads\DJV-2.0.8-win64\DJV-2.0.8-win64\etc\Icons\djv-tshirt-v02.png: Cannot open file. And EXR sequences looking very dark in the player I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, I had not found the cache setting -- was looking in the Settings where it had been previously. However, mine seems to stay at 0% even when enabled? Looks like one or more of those view settings will help.
The caching does work for image sequences and should be on by default, you can check by clicking the memory cache toolbar button at the top of the window (see the attached screenshot). For image resizing there are a couple of options, you can have the image scaled to fit the window, or have it shown unscaled with 1:1 pixels. Try the options in the "View" menu, "Lock Fill", "Lock Frame", and "Lock Center".
Thanks for the reply. Actually I am only ever playing back EXR sequences, so I was referring to caching of those. Not sure whether you're implying that caching doesn't currently work ONLY for movies? So far as resizing the UI, the UI seems to love to fill the screen regardless of the resolution of the played back image size, probably after playing full HD sequences then playing something that is smaller. I guess this is normal, but it would be great if it could somehow be smarter and adhere to whatever...
Hi and sorry for the delay! The new version does not support caching for movie files, I'm currently working on rewriting the "playback engine" to fix this. I'm not sure what you mean by frequently resizing the UI for smaller images sizes? I'll see if I can add back the image information for the next version.
The new version of DJV Viewer has some great improvements. I love the new pop out window for viewing layers -- much more convenient that before. Unfortunately it also seems to be very buggy on Windows 10 (opens up with a black window if the local procs are busy, freezes, loads frames in a very jumpy way). The option to cache seems to have been removed (perhaps this is now just the default?). I do also wish it wasn't necessary to resize the UI so much when playing smaller image sizes. But my main...
Yeah, sorry about that! I think there is also another cause for slow startup times when using lots of OpenColorIO configuration files, but that one will be a bit more difficult to fix...
Thanks. that would be ideal! It has caused some frustration until I figured out what was going on :)
Hi, thanks for help troubleshooting this, I generally just test with local files which is why I haven't seen this. The recent files are scanned at startup to remove any that don't exist anymore, but if it's causing delays like this maybe I should just disable it for the next version.
I've had this problem for a while where DJV (v1 and v2) just is extremely slow to start up at times. I've seen others report the same problem, and for example deleting the config json helps. I believe I know what the culprit is. I have a VPN connection to my work servers. If anything in the DJV recent history are located on the remote servers - and I turn off the VPN connection, I get that extreme slow startup. My tests here; All recent history are local files - 3 second startup Some remote history...
Thank you I will try it :)
Hi Gregor, sorry I haven't added export functionality to the new version yet; in the meantime you can still export from the older version: https://darbyjohnston.github.io/DJV/download.html
Hey, So I ahve loaded my Blender .EXR image sequence but I just can not find how to save this sequence as a video or export the files as PNGs. Where is this function hidden? Thanks for help

Thanks so much. Very very useful and helpful.
Hi, the new version does not have export functionality yet; just for reference here is the GitHub issue for tracking it: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/320 You can still use the older 1.3 version for export, you can download it here: https://darbyjohnston.github.io/DJV/download.html Darby
Actually there is no save option at all. Note screen capture. I have trawled the UI for anything equivlanet but I can't see how to save either the image sequence as a movie or EXR layer I might be viewing. I am using the Mac edition - I haven't checked the Linux or windows versions - the computers using them are busy. Is there something I might have missed?
Things like playing a shot in context of other shots using an edl, creating a multi user session where all the users are synced in to one session.
Out of curiosity, did you have specific contributions in mind?
Thanks. Yeah, if you add pybind, we would be able to contribute much better to the overall design.
Hi, and sorry for the delay! I would definitely like to add all of those things, here are some of the GitHub issues for reference: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/29 https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/24 https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/16 Feel free to add comments to those issues if you have thoughts on specific features or the implementation. Last year I had started experimenting with pybind to add Python bindings but ran into some issues with crashes that I couldn't...
It's a very artist friendly production management software that is also open source. https://www.cg-wire.com/
Hi Pipeliner, thanks for the comments; as mentioned in the meeting notes, simple playback will be the first step but at some point I would also like to add the ability to create or modify playlists in DJV. I hadn't heard about Kitsu, I'll check it out.
Coming back to this thread after reading the OpenTimelineIO meeting notes I only think the most important thing is to open otio files for loading playlists. We currently play around with Kdenlive and Olive that are able to export otio files to create playlists. The only thing missing is a otio capability on Kitsu, an open source production management software for animation and VFX.
Hi, do you have any plans to integrate a python API so we can improve the software as a community? Things we are missing especially are the ability to create and save playlists, being able to play or wipe two clips together. Being able to see a clip in context of a cut (having the ability to import an edl so we can see the clips in a cut context).
Hi Peter, this will definitely be fixed for the next version; for reference here is the GitHub issue that for tracking it: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/32 If you happen to have a test file that you can attach to that issue (or email me) that would be helpful. Thanks, Darby
Hi, I'm just getting into using DJV after having known about it for a long time :) It would be super useful if partial EXR files would be loaded, basically up to whatever the "last" valid scanline is. This helps a lot when testing longer renders but there is enough data rendered to be useful to view. I use Houdini mostly, and Mplay does show the partial scanlines, but I like DJV's super fast loading and ability to auto-detect sequences so it's a lot more convenient when viewing flipbooks/image sequences....
Hi, sorry for the confusion, I misunderstood your original question; DJV does not create thumbnails for the Windows File Explorer, it just shows the app icon to show that the file can be opened by DJV.
This is what I see at the moment.
Both formats are .MOV quicktime files.
Both formats are .MOV quicktime files.
What are the file extensions used for ProRes and AvidDNX?
Ah, I think the problem is that they are ProRes or AvidDNX files and the thumbnails are not being generated. H264 files seems to be generating ok. Anyway to install an additional component or set thumnails for these formats?
I think the Windows file assoiations can get mixed up sometimes when installing other software; you can set it back to DJV by right-clicking the file and choosing the menu item "Open with", and then the menu item "Choose another app". This will give you a dialog that will let you set it back to DJV.

Hey, I mean in Windows File Explorer - not the internal DjV file browser.
Hi, do you mean the thumbnails in the file browser? They work OK for me on Windows 10; which version of DJV are you using?
Hello! DJV is excellent (of course) but in Windows 10 there does not seem to be an option to show the thumbnails of video files - only the DJV film can? Is there an option somewhere to enable this? thank you in advance! max
Hi Henrik, thanks, I'm glad you like the changes! Clamping frame scrubbing to the start and end sounds like a good change, I made a GitHub issue for it here: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/336 Also that's a great idea about adding the memory cache to the initial setup, the GitHub issue for it is here: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/337 I should also probably add settings for timecode vs. frames to the initial setup as well, a number of people have asked where to find it...
Hi Darby Just tested out the brand new 2.0.8 - and I'm really starting to like where 2.x is heading. Lots of improvements over the out-of-the-box usability compared to the 1.x branch. I'm really happy with the way gamma, alpha channel, scaling and centered view is handled now. This is great! I'm stilling missing the option to customize hotkeys, but I understand that it's coming. Here are some things that I currently miss - in order of importance to the way I would like to use DJV. When using the...

great to know! thanks for the update, Darby.
Make sure you're in "Window/Full Screen" mode too. hotkey U Let me know if you get the same thing.
OK, thanks, I'll hook up a second monitor and check it out.
AH! Just sort of figured it out. When in "full screen" mode, if you click on a second monitor it'll minimize. It would be nice to be able to dissable this. If I just maximize the djv window, it'll stay open, but with the the window bar at the top of the screen. M
Hi, I'm currently running Windows 10 and have never seen this. I did a quick search and by any chance do you have "Tablet Mode" enabled? https://www.askvg.com/fix-apps-and-programs-automatically-minimize-in-windows-10/
I just installed djv view 2.0.8 on Windows 10. I have a sequence of images open. Everything looks great. As soon as I click away the djv view window seems to auto-close. Well, minimizes to be percise. Is there a way to keep the djv view window up while I select other files or open other programs? Thank you, M
Cannot load OpenEXR frames on MacOS Catalina (DJV 2.0.6 and above)
Closing this ticket since it is now being tracked on GitHub...
Option to detect and add new frames automatically
Thanks, that's a good suggestion, I was thinking about that recently as well. I've moved issue tracking over to GitHub so I'm going to close this; I've created a new feature request here: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/329
Option to detect and add new frames automatically
Hi, which version are you using? Also I have moved bug tracking over to GitHub: https://darbyjohnston.github.io/DJV/contributing.html#Bugs
Are you installing the DJV .rpm file? That should register the file types appropriately.
Hi, I'm actually working on adding customizable keyboard shortcuts right now, they will be available in the next version, 2.0.9. I haven't ported annotations to the new version yet but that is also on the list.
Hi, thanks for the suggestion; I don't have any plans for this yet but there is an existing issue on GitHub for tracking it: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/28
Hi, which version are you using? Can you provide test images and output from the log? https://darbyjohnston.github.io/DJV/contributing.html#Bugs
Hi, I'm getting very jerky, uneven playback of 4K EXRs. I'm working on Ubuntu, AMD Threadripper 1950x 16 cores, 2 x GTX 1070Ti, 64 GB of RAM I've set cache memory to maximum, as well as thread count for EXRs, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lukas
Hi, I'd like to suggest an option to sync playback frames for all loaded files - that would allow to jump between between those files to, for example, compare different versions of the same shot. Thanks, Lukas
I have looked everywhere, but I am unable to see where the keyboard shortcuts / hotkeys can be modified in DJV 2.0.8. Am I blind? There appears to be a new "settings" panel, but nothing about shortcuts there, and there doesn't seem to be any documentation referencing shortcuts. (Incidentally, it appears that annotations are also not available in this new version?)

OK, thanks for the info, I'll do a bit of research and see why DJV doesn't work with "Full Disk Access" permissions; I've switched issue tracking over to GitHub, here is the new issue for this: https://github.com/darbyjohnston/DJV/issues/303
Hi Darby, Yes, I have noticed this and wondered if it connected. I think it might be! I tried adding DJV to the list of programs that have “Full Disk Control” but it didn’t help. The local build of DJV from source seems to get around the issue. I can browse to any directory and load the EXRs. Only when DJV is installed does this come up, it seems. You are correct... if I copy an EXR to the home directory, I am able to see it and open it in DJV. However, I can not get to any folder inside, such as...
Hi, I just tried DJV on Catalina and am also seeing some strange issues, for example not being able to see any files when I browse to my Desktop in the file browser. I can however open OpenEXR files if I copy them into my home directory where they show up OK. I wonder if this is caused by the stricter security measures in Catalina? If you copy an OpenEXR file to your home directory, can you open it from there in the file browser? Thanks, Darby
This version features user interface improvements, new Japanese translations, and important bug fixes. Thanks to new contributors Kimball Thurston and Yushi Tone.
