Pidgin crashes on execution of Currenttrack

Using Pidgin 2.0.1 on Windows XP. When I click the checkbox to execute the plugin, Pidgin crashes reporting an unspecified error in Pidgin.exe. A runtime error states that pidgin.exe has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
A crash report is generated... I don't know what might be useful from it, so the entire report is appended in a text file.

additionally, this is version 1.2 of the plugin, and I have both an AIM account and a jabber (gmail) account. No settings have been made in the plugin, as it crashes in any attempted execution.

and, also :) the player I am currently using is Winamp 5.112. Having the player open or closed does not affect crashing.

Tried Pidgin 2.0.0, and current-track works just fine with it.

I have the exact same problem. The plugin worked fine in Pidgin 2.0.0, but crashes 2.0.1 in Windows XP. I've tried Currenttrack 1.1 and 1.2 with identical results.
In my Linux environment (Ubuntu Feisty, AMD64), Currenttrack 1.1 would work in Pidgin 2.0.0, but would crash Pidgin 2.0.1. Upgrading to Currentrack 1.2 fixed this in Ubuntu, but not in Windows.

I am also experiencing this in Windows (Windows XP x64 SP2) on Pidgin 2.01. I receive a runtime error upon enabling the plugin, which also crashes the entire program to the desktop.

The same is happening to me. Whether I have any media player running or not, as soon as I try to execute the plugin, Pidgin crashes.
I'm using CurrentTrack 1.2 and Pidgin 2.1.1.

We need CurrentTrack!

I just tried to enable this plugin in Pidgin 2.2.2 and experienced the same problem, C++ runtime error.

I encountered the same scenario after installing CurrentTrack WITHOUT first quitting Pidgin.
I re-ran the installer while pidgin was quit, and this time no errors when I enabled the plugin.

I just ran into the same problem when trying to enable CurrentTrack 1.2 plugin with Pidgin 2.3.0

The following link explains how to fix this problem. Quite simple:

Link is dead now. Can anyone repost the solution?

you can manually edit the currenttrack options in the prefs.xml to turn off the auto update, which should be causing the crash.
open the prefs file which you will find on xp here:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\.purple\prefs.xml
and search for 'currenttrack' and you will see this line:
<pref name='update' type='bool' value='1'/>
change the 1 to a 0.
that worked for me.

Changing the update value to zero in the xml file (as described below) fixed the problem for me under XP running pidgin 2.4.0
