WebCollab was forked off Core Lan Org in 2003 (?), and has been in active development ever since. In WebCollab the database creation can be done automatically as part of an automated install. Hello folks, i've got a problem with installing core, because i'm using windows and can't execute shell-scripts. I was trying to import the sql-files manually, but phpmyadmin returns my tons of errors. What should I do now? Cheers, Julian |

Hi all, Just to let the list know that I've been quietly developing a fork to Core for some time now. It's called WebCollab and it's also hosted a Sourceforge. I actually started the fork back in June 2002, but it didn't appear on Sourceforge until March 2003. Intially my development of the two projects worked nicely, the cross pollination of code between them has been beneficial to both projects. However the underlying WebCollab code has now moved significantly away from Core. As a result, I haven't been doing much Core development in the last few months. WebCollab is proving to be very stable and reliable, is optimised for MYSQL, and has been translated into Spanish (with French in the CVS). Appearance wise it still appears similar to Core, and most of the functions are similar. Almost all the code now in CVS has now been rewritten or altered. The principal (possible) drawback for Core users is that WebCollab does not have time accounting. Time accounting in Core 2.02 was buggy, but (hopefully) is fixed in version 2.10 beta. Personally I found the integration of time accounting and deadline projects unwieldy, and it was one of my motivators to start WebCollab. So, no - I don't want to code that in. WebCollab can be found at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/webcollab/ Regards Andrew Simpson |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Maybe someone will find this useful. We use radius auth here and I used this rip the userid's with a valid shell out of a passwd file (from another server) and generate an sql file for easy insertion into the core users table. egrep ':\/bin\/(tcsh|bash|csh|sh)$' /etc/passwd | egrep -v '^(archiver|bin|calltrak|cricket|cvs|disk|hostmaster|mrtg|mysql|operator|postgre s|request|root|rt|sys|webrptmgr|www):' | sort | awk -F\: '{print $1"\t"$3"\t"$5}' | awk -F\, '{print $1}' | sed 's/\.//g' | awk -F'\t' '{print "insert into users ( id, name, fullname, \"password\", email, admin, deleted ) values ( \047"$2"\047,\047"$1"\047,\047"$3"\047,\047NONE\047,\047"$1"@example.com\047, \047f\047,\047f\047 ) ; "}' It's a one liner, so remove all the line breaks. Since I use radius, I have the pw set to NONE, but you could just as easily put it to a default hashed passwd if you didn't mind everyone having the same pw and changing it after. Note that it uses the uid from the passwd file as the id in the core users table which will help keep it consistent. ~~ Andy Harrison Great Works Internet System Operations (full headers for details) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQCVAwUBPostz1PEkLgodAWVAQH/8QP/TIdUoVgzxWqQ9EzLSk//BfWsbMpTj6kl W08JYfPXFPOvV8LQ9am1Ttul7R/5H2UOP/ChQ04UVX+DSwZ2cLtF3cpIHYxR9ppa uh8jRLDPZrNqYDH8ugrJcEDkRZUbfkBTmFzNCb7JZC4eTEJaIgg4IYD/B5rXYoQy jDbBHW6aW80= =agpY -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Couple requests. Can it be changed so that if the user forgets to choose a user group that it doesn't default to "All groups" and spam everyone? Also, this one probably wouldn't be too tough. Add an e-mail address column to the usergroups table, then make it so that if there is an entry in the e-mail address field, it sends to that e-mail address instead of direct messages to individual users. ~~ Andy Harrison Great Works Internet System Operations (full headers for details) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQCVAwUBPoSpblPEkLgodAWVAQFfqgP8CZKGZClO1NjieRF1uGgBFni330kDrJ+q QAec9CHf5Xf30aeuoFT8Zw0J7UMPfZKe0HOt5HnnG+6OcGs3jGXsEcTa7uEvBScq 6vqrAIpIvGIaxruRFaqzCmAI8sK3tcNraHt8gvFhPeuag3eOEGXCpz2JGRPhP3fw KGx3Z1+hqvg= =sHhW -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Badly. ;) I just basically commented out a lot of your php in the index.php and stuck the $_SERVER["REMOTE_USER"] in the right place. But hey, it works. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Just wondering, would this be hard to set up? I'm thinking it wouldn't be. RT (request tracker) has it, for example, and it simply has an option: # If $WebExternalAuth is defined, RT will defer to the environment's # REMOTE_USER variable. Set($WebExternalAuth , undef); Could this be done in core as well? The user still has to exist in the core db of course, but you protect the core web directory with an .htaccess resembling something like this: AuthName CORE AuthType BASIC AuthGroupFile /usr/local/etc/apache/.htgroup AuthRadiusAuthoritative on AuthRadiusCookieValid 0 order deny, allow deny from all require group staff satisfy all So the user would essentially not have a password in the core user database, just the user information for group identity, etc. I can see how the session is created in the index.php, I'm just not good enough with php to fake it out. ~~ Andy Harrison Great Works Internet System Operations ajh...@gw...
