Common Music (CM) is a real-time music composition system implemented in C++ and Scheme. It generates musical output via MIDI, OSC, CLM, FOMUS and CSOUND. Its user application is called GRACE (Graphical Real-time Algorithmic Composition Environment)
computing audio
Keyboard trigger for interactive buffer evaluation
plot of random values with histogram
plot of midi file (bach fugue)
Plot window with three envelopes (layers)
cellular automata with state window (conway's game of life)

Having great trouble getting this running! Tried running "Notes from the Meta Level"Chapter 6 cmapp.cm in Grace but comes up with errors (scale unbound variable pprint unbound variable)
Is there any help available to get this going?
Thanks
Frank
Hello Frank, Im sorry for your troubles. The problme is that the code in the book is much older than the Grace program so you would either need to “translate” that code into the newer system, or use the codebase that was existed when then book was published. I believe the book came with a CD, it might be possible to get that source code working.
I hope this helps!

Thanks that explains it. I am trying to translate the code in the book
using the examples in the program Help menu.
Just one thing I havn't figured out yet. If I open a file with a lot of
function definitions in it do I have to evaluate each function severalty by
placing the cursor at the end and pressing Ctrl+Enter or is there a way to
evaluate the whole file in one go?
Thanks
Frank
