Just a quickie to announce the naming scheme for the forthcoming releases of ComicCode 2.0. ComicCode is going to be available in two (initially) packages, ComicCode-espresso and ComicCode-mocha. ComicCode-espresso is just the user and module manager, with no specific modules. This is just to get what I feel is a pretty useful set of core tech out there, so anybody who wants to can build on it. ComicCode-mocha includes a variety of modules (comics, blog/rant, RSS) intended for the comic authoring end user. ComicCode-espresso will be released first, which allows me to beta test the core stuff of mocha so I know that's stable and can then focus on beta testing the more specific portions.
Main reason I joined this program is because I had the nifty idea of making the layout easier for the users to manipulate. This will be by using a base HTML template, which can be altered by using stylesheets. Users can create their own stylesheet, select it, and the site will be shown accordingly. Giving them more control over the visual aspect of the site.
Each new module will have it's own div. Making general manipulation easier of each object.... read more
Ok, so I said I wasn't adding more features to 1.0.. But I lied.
So I added back & next links, but that's really it!
ComicCode 2.0 is currently in the second bit of design - I've sorted out the features, and I'm finalising the how.
It will be.. Totally different, from 1.0, key features - modular design, support for flat files as well as MySQL, one-click module installation, improved scalability.
The core of the thing is simply a module manager, which will include that one-click install (I'm still finalising the how for that), but it will be pre-packaged with, at minimum, a strip manager offering improved functionality over ComicCode 1.0, and user management. Although hopefully I'll also include a rant box module as well.... read more
Having found no new bugs in beta 1.8, ComicCode is now 1.0 - there are no significant changes between beta 1.8 and 1.0, so you don't need to redownload if you're running 1.8b.
Right - beta 1.7 now includes all the features to be added for now, and after bug fixes, will be ComicCode 1.0.
There are several things on the drawing board still, but they're significant enough changes to the project as a whole, to not be incorporated in this version.
Added .swf support - just a small update prior to the more major additions surrounding user and admin functions, which will probably be followed by a freeze for bugwatching, and then A Proper Release (i.e. not beta).
New release of ComicCode adds.. No functionality.
What it *does* do, is make the whole thing look much nicer, as well as adding the new ComicCode logo.
This shouldn't introduce any new bugs - but if it does be sure to swing by http://board.radio64.net and let me know.
Well, that was fun.
The latest version of ComicCode should hopefully be functional on all counts, minor bugs squished (until somebody finds another one).
And.. I'll fix the wrongness of all the button titles (which mainly say upload), in the next release. Which will, assuming no more bugs emerge, make everything look prettier.
Version control issue in the last release meant that 'admin_functions.inc' was trying to write to a database field that doesn't exist, unless the as-yet-unreleased news module is installed.
Fixed in newer release - may be another bug in uploading which is being looked into.
Apologies to anybody who downloaded beta 1, the broken installer should now be fixed in beta 1.1.
The features on the way:
Improved user management:
- User details editing
- Admin control of comics
News posting & avatars
Blog/rant posting
Multiple comics per user
Automagic latest strip images
Banner support
First release of ComicCode, I won't do the release notes or comments from the readme here.. Just to say, that it should all be working, and you'll need PHP 4+ and MySQL to run it.
