Collagen-like sequences have a unique regularity of their sequence that can be used an effective search query for these kinds of motifs. Here we present a method of searching for GlyXxxYyy pattern and the program ColagenFinder that implements this method. Human and others genomes were annotated with this program and the results obtained are stored in the internal database. On the human genome sample, our program finds all annotated genes with collagen pattern content. Our program and a CLS database can substantially facilitate experimental work on the annotation of collagen-containing genes. The preliminary results suggest that a substantial number of such genes have not yet been annotated or characterized.
