#4 Distinguish between plate and pillar object styles.
All geometry objects are treated the same way by the
back-end. A new appearance hint should be added to
distinguish between objects that are flat plates (metal
layers, mostly) and objects that are pillars (via
layers, mostly). These can be given different
appearances based on this geometry hint.
