I clicked the software update link and got the message
"New software updates are available! . . ." Perhaps
this should say "A new version of the CCEL-Desktop
software is available. \ Download update \ Click the
link above to download the installer, save the file on
your desktop, and then exit the CCEL-Desktop software
and double-click the installer."
Curiously, though the info bar at the bottom of the
browser said I was downloading ccel-desktop.jar, the
file actually got saved by default as ccel-desktop.zip.
I had to rename it ccel-desktop.jar; then I could
double-click it and run it. It woudl be better if the
default was ccel-desktop.jar; if that can't be
arranged, we should add a word to that effect in the
instruction sentence.

The update message has been updated.
There appears to be no simple way to resolve the file
downloading as .zip in IE. Info regarding this problem is
displayed now on the update page and in the readme.
