July 2007 - One year Bookpiles - and six releases

The first version of Bookpiles has been released one year ago, end of June, 2006. This was version 0.8. Development had started some months prior.
In one year a lot has been achieved. There were six releases and new functionality has been added: book preview, a dashboard, book folders and book data from public libraries; a German and a Turkish version.

Bookpiles 1.15 - Preview release

New version of Bookpiles with 2 new features:
Dashboard and preview

In detail:
- Book preview does work now – detail template was missing for last release.
- Overview about books in database is shown in a book dashboard
- Preview for selected book with thumbnail

Sample database has current bestsellers fiction / nonfiction for hardcover and paperback

Bookpiles 1.1 - Book folders release

New version of Bookpiles with 3 new features:
Book folders, book details page and ISBN load

In detail:
- Book tree with books added to folders
- Folders can be added, moved, renamed and deleted
- Books are added to Incoming Books folder and can be copied or moved to other folders.
- Deleted books are move to the Deleted Books folder, and are permanentely deleted when deleted there.
- New window: book details. Web page like display with all information about one book:
General book data, title thumbnail, Amazon Reviews and Bookcrossing Journals
- Browse to next / prior book on book details
- Import books for ISBN... read more

Bookpiles 1.0 - Library release

Bookpiles 1.0 and BookGears 0.8 has been released. For Bookpiles a Turkish user interface translation exist now.

Bookpiles 0.9.1 and BookGears 0.7.1 released

Bug fix release:
Sometimes the wrong Firebird database dll used, gds32.dll instead of fbclient.dll.
Sometimes initial database not automatically found.

BookGears 0.7 and Bookpiles 0.9 released

BookGears is a program which extracts book data from web pages of public libraries while you are browsing them - Internet Explorer reqired. Book data is shown and can be sent to Bookpiles which then stores it.
Since nearly each library has a different web page layout the data is extracted using regular expressions. The regular expressions have to be set up for each library and web page. Currently a few libraries are supported... read more

September 2006 - 'BookGears' registered

The library module for Bookpiles will be a separate program with name ‚BookGears’.
The project has been registered with SourceForge (still under review).

BookGears uses regular expressions to extract book related strings from public library web pages. The book data is aggregated and can be sent to Bookpiles, which will save the data in its database.

The first release of BookGears is planned for end September together with a new release of Bookpiles to load the received library data.

First public release, Bookpiles version 0.8

Bookpiles is a book organizer for readers. It helps you to organize information about books you have, you want to read or you have given away.

There is no need to type in book data. It can be loaded from Amazon or Bookcrossing. This includes author, title, publisher, publiation date, price, a book thumbnail and much more.

All book data is stored in an SQL database on your PC.
