New storage

Well, I'll probably be moving to a new storage method shortly. Seems that IBM is open-sourcing a pure java RD product called cloudscape, which is capable of being imbedded, and doesn't require too much memory.

This will allow me to do much cooler things with book display and info. Will also make it tons easier to add / change info that's saved. Hope it's soon.

booklib-r2 news

I've started a re-write of booklib, since it's got ugly code. The current code, available as the cvs module 'booklib-r2', has some functionality again.

It:
* Has a main gui that works mostly
* Fetches info from the internet
* Saves book data to a library
* Tells you if you already have a book you just tried to add.

Next on the schedule is making the main GUI work 100%, and then creating some type of library management interface.

Not dead yet....

BookLib isn't dead, it was just in a period of extended rest. Yeah, that's it. Shortly (hopefully later today, but we'll see) I'll be uploading a bunch of new code that you can check out of cvs if you'd like. Probably a new build sometime in august.

Update

I've been busy. But, from what I've seen, no one cares. ;) Anyways, I've just commited some code, if anyone cares to check it out from cvs. Just some basic updates, added a status bar, fixed the library a little. That's it.

Status

Well, long time no update. I'm almost ready for the next . release. I've fixed a few program flow errors, like the evil one that pops up when a book isn't found. I've also added more functionality to the library gui. Plus you'll be able to process a text file of ISBN's (which is useful if you don't have a bar code scanner), and even export your library to a JFile compatable CSV(JFile is a palmOS db app). It's cool. Honest.... read more

Mailing List

I created a mailing list (should show up sometime) that will just be a notify list for when I release a new version of BookLib.

Release + Update

Well, I've released v0.1. It's alpha quality. What's there should be releativley bug free, but if you find bugs, let me know. More features are in the works.

And an update, the README is wrong. Oops. You can really view and edit things in the library. My bad.

Update

Big update today. I've got the project accepting EANs, processing them, getting author/title, displaying the title, and the letting you choose to save it to your library or not. If you want to see for your self, check the code out from cvs, (see my CVS post).

The driving class that you'll want to execute, (after compiling of course) is jm.booklib.BookLibGUI

CVS

Oh yeah, one more thing. If you want stuff from CVS to play with checkout the module "jm" ie:
cvs co -P jm
Make sure you do '-P', as I kinda screwed around with CVS before I read SF's directions and got a few more directories than I wanted. Oops.

Status

This isn't really news, more of a "What's going on." What's going on is not much. I just recently started this project, and I've got some done, but not a whole lot. As soon as I have a stable, mostly working build, I'll more than likely package it up for a alpha/beta release. I see that happening Real Soon Now(tm).
