Came across issue with "full paranoia" setting, but similar though less severe with any of the 4. When enabled before ripping (FLAC, in my case) a particular CD (Masta Artisan - Polarity Switch) it not only makes the ripping last longer or outright make the drive malfunction (strange sounds, brusque start-stop), but also causes subsequent attemps to rip with the setting enabled or disabled (without restarting the PC) to crash in much the same way. Trying to pause or abort ripping crashes freac, and if I rip the CD without enabling cdparanoia in the first place, it rips fine. Ripping with any setting of cdparanoia that doesn't completely crash creates files with errors (pops, skips, scratchy bits).

Not so much a bug that could be fixed, but rather a warning. Tested on 2 different drives adn machines.

One last query: does anyone know if cdparanoia does in fact cause more harm than good, or if there is record of it actually causing errors in ripped files?

Thank you
