That's one of the frustrating things about Alsa; there doesn't seem to be a good way of looking at what is holding on to which sound devices. I've run into this same problem, and often I have to close down my browser (when it plays Flash content, etc), Rhythmbox, etc. before CSound can play anything. ________________________________ From: Chad Joan <cha...@gm...> To: blue users mailing list <blu...@li...> Sent: Saturday, July 18, 2009 5:59:46 AM Subject: Re: [Bluemusic-users] Re altime playback isn't working as Blue seems unable to play sound. Please help. I should have thought of it before, but I just restarted ALSA using "sudo /etc/init.d/alsasound restart" and then tried Blue. It worked with that, at the expense of closing any programs that might be using sound. It still doesn't tell me what was blocking though :/ At any rate, I was able to get Blue's realtime playback working. Now I just need to fix my system so that it works without having to restart ALSA. Thanks for the help and sorry for the bother! - Chad On Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 3:53 PM, Chad Joan <cha...@gm...> wrote: "Sorry I didn't get back about this sooner, work has been quite busy." >Don't worry about it. I don't remember what else might be kicking around, but I ran "rc-status -a" and it seems ALSA is the only thing alive. I've ESounD installed but it isn't active. > >I'm going to try installing Jack for now and see if I can pipe Blue through that and make it work. Jack seems pretty cool anyways.
