Blue 2.7.3 seems to work on my Ubuntu 16.04 out of the box. Great. However I am uncertain of my Java environment and whether it has JavaFX, as I cannot see that as an installed package using Synaptic. $ java -version java version "1.8.0_171" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_171-b11) Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 25.171-b11, mixed mode) Perhaps I must remove and that and install Oracle Java 9 (1.9.x?) JDK? Can I interrogate my system further to establish JavaFX is present and correct? |

Dear Adam, I have got just the same system: Same version of Ubuntu, Java and blue...same response, if I type "java -version" on the Terminal.. As yours, it also works fine for me here...for months. I remember Steven mentioning in a mail on the list some months ago, that blue (or was ist Java FX) is not ready yet to support Version 9.x of Java. So if it now works fine for you in that configuration I would not change anything. I guess you have installed blue just the way it should be. Enjoy! Sorry I'm late to reply, but to confirm what Jan Jacob mentioned, Blue only runs with Java 8 at this time. Java 9 had big changes internally and the release numbers of Java are now incrementing quickly (Java 10 is already out, Java 11 is in the works and is going to remove bundling of JavaFX amongst other things). I have to do a fair amount of research on what path I will take with Java technologies and hope to sort it out this summer. For the short term though, installing Java 8 and JavaFX is the recommended and supported solution. For Linux, JavaFX is usually a separate package. The commandline probably won't tell you if JavaFX is installed or not and you will have to check your package manager. If Blue starts though, you probably have JavaFX installed (otherwise Blue will show an error dialog). Steven, if you're not already subscribed, you can keep up with OpenJFX development here: http://mail.openjdk.java.net/mailman/listinfo/openjfx-dev for example: http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/openjfx-dev/2018-April/021713.html -- Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) "After the vintage season came the aftermath -- and Cenbe." |

Hi Glenn, Thanks, I used to subscribe to that mailing list but stopped to free up some bandwidth. I'll check in with that list once I'm looking at JavaFX again.
